Karsten Krieg | 129 comments Nice pickups, Paul. Tempted to get the He-Man myself, but it feels like guilty pleasure. Tell me if you enjoy Rachel Rising when you come around reading it.

My Incal came via Amazon btw.

Also just added Miracleman by „the original writer“ and reading it right now. The praise is deserved.

The Lion's Share Wow, I wish I could read BPRD vol 3 for the first time again. You’re in for a treat.

Also Rachel rising is incredible.

Berserk DLX sold out at IST. I expect them to get more as this is not a situation like Conan where they lost the license to print more. With Amazon bumping their release date back not sure if IST only had a small portion of what they initially ordered or what happened. With Dark Horse planning on releasing more volumes down the line I very much expect volume one to be readily available.

Well crap. I looked and didn't even see it so I thought it wasn't released today. I'm hope they get more.

@Karsten - A couple weeks ago, I almost bought the Miracleman hardcovers. I was going to wait for an omnibus, which is probably being held back to finish the new Gaiman portions but I'm really not interested in those. I've been waiting literally decades to read it.

Incal Oversized
Relstuart: #1007 (Amazon)
Blindzider: #0817 (IST)
Karsten: #1498 (Amazon)

message 4905: by Karsten (new)

Karsten Krieg | 129 comments Yeah, I was reading up on the (legal) history of Miracleman and the statement came up that Gaiman is going to finish his storyline alongside with Buckingham in 2019.

However, even if, that means the omni will not here until mid/late 2020.

Aaron Saylor | 58 comments Had a big week - picked up X-Men Classic (love it), the He-Man omnibus from DC, which is absolutely enormous, and House of Secrets and House of Mystery. Really they release more of the House omnibus volumes.

Nickviola | 1019 comments Got my Incal from IST - LOVE IT. Mine is #793

message 4908: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments I also jumped into 20th Century Boys - got the “perfect” editions 1 and 2.

I was considering Berserk but I think this is more my genre from what I hear, even tho it’s paperback :)

What's 20th century boys like? Should i be getting into this? I tried volume 1 but wasn't gripped like other manga.

I got my DC He-Man omnibus yesterday and just flipping through the art looks good. It is enormous. I'm reading the thru the first arc and the writing is decent so far.

Rumble TPB volume 5 was good. I like the addition of Dave Rubin on art. The one critique is the main normal guy character is much less of a focus and he's almost just there rather than the central character we experience the story through.

message 4911: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Cheese: I’ll update you after I start it but 20th century boys is about a group adults dealing with the creation of a problem that stems from something they did in childhood. I think it’s one of the best selling manga of all time and won about every award including Eisner’s.

That said, I haven’t opened the book yet. The format is nice for a paperback. Thick cover that folds out, the name on the cover is kind of hidden, you only see it through the art from certain angles. Plus it was just $15. Perfect editions volume 1 and 2 are out, 3-6 all come out this year.

I’ll update more after reading.

Nice! I’m excited about finally picking up a copy of X-Men Classic. I’ve heard people complain about how it’s cumbersome to switch back and forth between two omnibuses to read issues with the classic parts, but a lot of those classic issues represent what I read as a kid and so my memories of older X-Men mythos, so I have to have it! Glad you’re enjoying it!

Karsten Krieg | 129 comments Added a lot of stuff over the last week due to a sale. All OHC except for Miracleman.

Secret Empire, Swamp Thing DLX by Snider, Original Sin, Captain Marvel Omni wth the DM variant cover, Walking Dead Omni Vol. 4, Multiversity by Morrison, Thor Heroes Return Omni Vol.1 , Deadpool & Co ((binding is coming off, seems to be a production issue) and Deadpool Minibus Vol.0, Miracleman Vol.2, Vol.3 and the Gaiman one.

A whale came in as well: Fear Agent Library Editiion Vol.2

Lots of good stuff there. Fear agent v2 was the best part of that series.

message 4918: by Relstuart, Mod+ (new)

Relstuart | 2964 comments Mod
Some very nice pick ups. I still think Fear Agent is my favorite thing from Remender and the second hardcover really started bringing things together.

Finished The Incal last night. The DLX slipcase is a very nice book. There is a lot of subtext and social commentary along with the story. I'm still not settled on how great I think it is - I know it's frequently listed as one of the all-time great comic book stories - I'm not sure it's in my top few immediately.

message 4919: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments I am 150 pages into 20th Century Boys Perfect Edition #1 and I don't know where the story is taking me but its god damn delightful. If you flipped through you'd think it was just talking heads, but the dialogue is smart and quick without being quippy and goes between a group of kids as pre-teens and then as young adults with the flash forwards to some earth-shattering events and other scenes of a cult forming but the connections between events are slow to form in a genuine mystery way. The art is beautiful, dynamic faces while they are talking, inter-spaced super detailed scenery. Clearly distinguished characters that you can tell which kid is which adult, etc. Genuinely charming characters without any cookie cutter archetypes.

In short, I am really digging it. 150 days of interesting, well-written mystery with no fights (outside of a single punch or two), no blood, no superpowers, no ghosts, no evil dwarves, no over-the-top noir or crime motifs. Its refreshing. I'd say for 15 bucks a lot of you may want to take a look. If my opinion changes with more reading I will update the group.

message 4920: by Tony (new)

Tony (standardman) | 106 comments Yeah! Urasawa is amazing. You’re spot on with his faces, I find it’s what pulls you into his works.

Highly recommend Pluto if you haven’t read it. He takes a story that was in fun kids manga Astro Boy and adapts into a dark mystery thriller. It’s really something.

There’s also Monster, which you can get in the same Perfect 2-in-1 editions aaaand he does a great series of interviews with fellow creators.

message 4921: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Thanks man, I feel like I’m on a trajectory to get all his work now and already have the other 20th century boy perfect editions factored into my budget for the year.

message 4922: by Tony (new)

Tony (standardman) | 106 comments That’s basically how it went for me - bought one book then quickly bought everything I could. He’s quite distinctive, I think.

I’m forever thankful for the person who works at my local comic shop for recommending Pluto once she realised I liked Astro Boy. She got a lot of sales out of that, haha.

Nickviola | 1019 comments Did anyone pick up the Aaron Star Wars Omni?

I got the Darth Vader a while back and it was ok and heard it was the better of the 2 so not dying to get the SW omni, but curious if others picked up and if you think this will end up expensive and OOP book or one that ends up with tons of copies floating around?

message 4924: by Richard (new)

Richard (richardv) | 20 comments My omni is arriving today but I've already been reading both series slowly on digital. I'm about halfway through both and I actually like the Star Wars run much better than the Vader. Mostly because I'm not a big fan of Doctor Aphra and her droids, but I'm in the minority there.

Richard (richardv) | 20 comments Nickviola wrote: "you think this will end up expensive and OOP book or one that ends up with tons of copies floating around?"

I don't presume to be in the know, but I would guess that this omnibus would stay in print a while mostly because it's Star Wars and Disney.

Tough to say whether it will become an OOP sought after book. I bought the OHCs so they have two oversize options but it's Star Wars so who knows. I thought Darth Vader was better than Aaron's Star Wars which felt a bit uneven in quality to me.

Not a really busy day for hardcover releases. If you feel like checking out something a bit different, Coda from Boom studios has the first TPB (of a 12 issue series) coming out today. I've enjoyed the series.

Earth X Trilogy Omnibus Omega (there are just two omnibus volumes for the whole series, Omega being the second and final).
Kill Six Billion Demons TPB vol 3
Last Siege TPB (Image)
Polar HC
Promethea DLX vol 1

Finally after nearly 3 weeks. 5 days for IST to prepare the shipping label. Another week later after a email from me to IST to actually ship it (they claimed it had been sitting at the post office to ship) and another week of getting misplaced in transit.

Incal 826

He Man is the size of the Invisibles & Doom Patrol Omnis.

Mistake? I always order to be shipped via UPS. This order was made after a night of drinking and was defaulted to USPS . . . Never again.

PS. IST, just admit it was sitting in your warehouse with the ordered shipping label for the second of the three week process. It’s a little fishy when the USPS tracking says waiting to be received for a week and then within 2 hours of my email the update is “received”

message 4936: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
One comment I can make is that USPS tracking is a joke. It seems to always be updated too late if at all so I'm not sure I'd trust anything it reports. Not that the whole thing wasn't ridiculous. Glad to hear you actually got everything and sounds like nothing was damaged.

Very nice! I think mine was $60 from IST.

Erik, glad you got your Incal in. :) I haven't seen many low numbers posted for the book. I wonder how many were ruined and returned because of poor shipping from Amazon? I've seen several posts from people saying they returned a copy.

Battle Angel Alita question - I bought the box set and have read most of it - Battle Angel Alita The Last Order appears to be the continuation of the story after the boxed set material? Anyone heard about any plans to continue to print more DLX editions with the additional material?

The box set sold out initially but they reprinted and more copies are in stock on Amazon.

The Battle Angel Alita box set has six hardback books. They are standard height but slightly wider.

Price went up since I purchased at $101. They sold out for a bit and it still says a couple weeks till shipping?: https://www.amazon.com/Battle-Angel-A...

Nickviola | 1019 comments SPOILERS BELOW REGARDING THE INCAL

So I finished the Incal. When I was 50 pages in, I was sure I’d end it impressed but confused. Now that it’s over I’m don’t feel confused but I do feel disappointed. The art is lovely, my issues are with plot.

So DiFool never changes, up until the end he’s a selfish coward who has to be coerced or taken over by the Incal into any heroic action and even toward the end is stealing gold so he can go to some pleasure planet and buy a whore... and only as an after thought says unless Animah wants to come (who is supposed to be his solemate). Then out of nowhere a god-like (like literally in the model of Yahweh or Zeus) appears and makes him a messiah figure and sends him back to the beginning as his son. DiFool’s love for Animah was totally superficial and sexual, and he learns nothing. While there are lots of funny moments, some political and religious satire, I get the sense that DiFool is supposed to have a transformation because he gets better looking throughout, but he never acts selflessly or even intelligently. So is the point we are all fools in a circle of repeating mistakes, failing to rise to occasions in which we could save each other? Again, if that’s the point kudos, fair enough, but I feel like that wasn’t the point. I am sure some more philosophy would come out in a slower reading or re-reading, but interested in others thoughts.
