We need more people like you Nick 👍🏼 you’re a true hero. On another subject has anyone seen that they are doing a show on The Boys by Ennis? That will be mad if it’s like the comic.
Ha. Captain America’s recent comics arcs and future creative teams have people on edge. What’s new with you?

It was just a reminder that we'd like this group to stay "light and fun" and preferably talk about the stuff we enjoy the most in this medium.

I just finished Absolute Preacher 3, have to say it stuck the landing, very satisfying end.So not a new addition but in my Claremont readathon I’m finally at Inferno which I am scared to finish because I think the X-men then go from being more often good to more often bad. Obviously Morrison and Whedon runs are great but I’ve already read each one twice.
I think it must be before, so far the siege perilous was offered to them in Australia but some of the Reavers went through but none of the heroes chose to go through.

Well crap. Sorry for the spoiler. Wasn't thinking...

I think we should keep it off the board, message me if you want some background though. I enjoy Coates as a writer in general though didn’t love his Black Panther but first crack at comics writing has got to be hard. I’ll give anything he writes a chance personally.
I enjoyed his memoir, couldn’t get into at least the first issue of Black Panther. I’d be curious to see his take on Cap.
Cheese, you are going to kill me, but I never read the 'Boys'. Garth Ennis right? I really enjoy his Preacher and his War Books, so maybe I should give it a look.
I recently added a hardcover collecting golden age comics to my reading pile. It is the Shazam Family archive 1. It collects the Captain Marvel Jr Fawcet comics from the 40s. They are mostly Master Comics issues, and are so different from the Shazam books from the same period. Fantastic art by Mac Raboy I believe his name is, gives the book some of the best covers and art of the golden age. And a tone a little darker than most of the other Marvel Family stories. So far I am really enjoying it. It is an out of print Archive, but surprisingly I think it is readily available for like $10. Has anyone else tried it?
All concerned - I was offline during the weekend with golf for the first time in a couple years, not feeling well, and Mother's Day.
While we welcome different opinions about what you like and don't like - even those based on personal philosophy and world view - if we are going to have a fun atmosphere around talking about the books and characters we love, we can't afford to engage in name calling. To a lesser extent that should generally include talking about creators and it must include talking to each other.
You are free to say you don't care for a particular creator, but please explain what about their content you don't love and let's try to avoid comparisons to infamous evil people or name calling.
I can't edit anyone's posts here but I have removed the discussion posts I think pointed us away from our goal of being kind to all. That also deleted some valid discussion and I apologize for that.
If you have questions or concerns please don't hesitate to let me know.
P.S. I shot 113 at the golf course and my club grips were disintegrating in my hands the whole time. But, it was a beautiful day and I was in good company. :)

Thanks for stepping in, Rel. Comics chat is a bit of a garbage fire in certain spots across the internet at the moment, and whilst I'm personally of the mindset that one side of that discussion should be challenged, this isn't the place.

Anyone read the dark metal stuff? I’ve heard it’s fun if you can just accept it as a crazy else-worlds type of story.
If good, better to go with the different HCs coming out or wait for an Omni?

I haven't read it but I'm hearing the same things and plan to get the Omni if it happens. Seems like there were too many extras for an OHC? Because there was more than just the main mini series right?
There are three or four tie-in volumes along with Road to Metal and Metal. Sounds like enough for an omni to me. I’m gonna pick up the Road to Metal HC this month. I’ve heard similar things: nitpick and you’ll hate it.
TheLastWord wrote: "Cheese, you are going to kill me, but I never read the 'Boys'. Garth Ennis right? I really enjoy his Preacher and his War Books, so maybe I should give it a look."Just be very careful about the Gore and crassness. I liked it very much though.
I just ordered the Flash Rebirth DLX 2, Lady Mechanika OHC 2, Paradiso TPB 1, and the final Goon Library Edition (vol 5).
I should have the Punisher Max vol 1 omnibus and Batman Detective Comics Rebirth DLX vol 2 arriving in the mail tomorrow.
There are a lot of books coming the first week of June and Absolute Sandman Overture coming the second week.

As far as the modern stuff goes the Inhumans OHC by Paul Jenkins (art by Jae Lee) is probably most recognized as being the best written thing available along with their role in the War of Kings event. I have heard good things about the (recently concluded?) Black Bolt solo series but haven't checked it out.
I believe the Jenkins OHC has gone through multiple printings as they have kept up with demand.

Got started buying in the Valiant universe today. Found X-O Manowar Deluxe Vol 2 for crazy cheap. Odd place to start for sure but it'll put the impetus on me to get the other 4 in this series at least.

I've not read a ton of the Valiant universe but have read the first three (almost all of 4) of X-O Manowar. I thought the first book was ok, the second frustrating, and third was awesome.

I'm a big fan of X-O. The rest is soso for me. I've read most of Harbinger but its fizzled for me. Didnt care for Bloodshot. The Divinity books, I read the first. It was ok but seems to require a bigger knowledge of the Valiant universe.
X-O is a good place to start. Harbinger is great but knowledge of bloodshot is helpful. Bloodshot isn’t a great first series but when Lenore takes over it gets fun and weird.
I don’t think you need to, I didn’t read any 90s Valiant and haven’t gotten the Omnis. Seems like they were the same cool characters and ideas, the reboot just filters out the 90ish stuff and it’s much better for it.
Bloodshot was surprising because I really like Duane Swierczynski. I love what he did with Judge Dredd.
X-0 vol one is worth the read, don’t skip it. IST still carries it I think. It was my gateway into Valiant and now I have all but two DLX.
I too considered getting the couple 90’s Omnis that we’re released, but I don’t think they will do many of them and it seems just for nostalgia for those who did read them, so a pass for me.
What I love about the new Valiant reboot is it truly is a restart, with no sign of slowing. Easy to catch up and enjoy the ride.

I only read first 3 Harbinger TPBs and first 2 Bloodshot TPBs... I kind of started to get bored with the Harbinger 3rd TPB, Fate is just too goody two shoes, perfect human being cause she's a comics book nerd... and that's lame. I was hoping for more engaging story telling.I just got All Star Batman vol. 2-3 HC and Dark Knights Road to Metal HC btw. :D I think i will follow Snyder's all Batman run, but i don't think i will jump to JLA... I never dig the JLA much.
Just added 2 pictures of my current collection (only lacking my Prince Valiant Box set 1 which doesn’t fit and the sideways books to the left of Fourth World are Kirby Artist Editions of Mister Miracle and Kamandi):https://www.goodreads.com/photo/group...

Whales remain:
(1) Hickman FF Omni 1, (2) Captain Britain Omni, (3) Alias Omni, (4) X-Men (Lee) Omni 1, (5) Mighty Thor Omni 1, (6) Infinity Gauntlet Omni, (7) Cap Brubaker Omnis 1-3, (8) Daredevil Bendis Omnis 1/2
Also plan to ultimately finish collecting Absolute Sandman’s eventually.
I keep my Hickman FF 2 wrapped in case I ever find a deal on the pair it’s resellable but the last 2 auctions on eBay both went for over 400 for the pair which is never going to happen even if I can maybe sell volume 2 for 140 still makes 260 for volume 1 + effort. Just a bummer I can’t find that or Captain Britain for <200.
