Yep that's why i avoided it. I want a story not boring artwork.

Fourth World definitely has a story. And regarding writing quality, IMO, its better writing than any pre-Claremont Marvel, but I appreciate that silver age writing of any caliber is not enjoyable for some people. For me, I can not read Lee's Spider-man or X-men, its impossible. But yes, Mister Miracle has an escape artist routine he works on despite being involved in a potentially world-ending war and the Forever People are space hippies - so not exactly Brubaker, Morrison, or Hickman.
Regarding story, despite some meandering issues, over 4 years Kirby invents a diverse new comic world, develops strong female characters, designs new technologies that define new civilizations, and interweaves 4 titles with a central over-arching plot told over 4 years. Plus, Kirby was writing AND drawing 14 issues (several of which are oversized) a year for 4 years. Take a second to absorb that. I can't even come up with anything close to a comic parallel so from a historical perspective, its quite unique. That said, not for everyone!

I haven't but I think it looks good over dust jackets and it does give additional protection.
I bought the first Invincible OHC recently to give it a shot. I saw a comment somewhere that it really hits its stride in the second OHC. I know a lot a people have had good things to say about the series and it is by Kirkman who has written some pretty good stuff.
I also picked up the vol 7 and 8 Don Rosa boxed set. Those books look really nice on the shelf. :)
I'm still behind on picking up books that have come out in the last few months. Part of the reason is money going to art stuff instead. The Kilian Eng Star Wars Rogue One print is really well done with spots of varnish on the print to make some parts of it pop. So far it is about my favorite print I've seen come out for the film. They did a large print run so they should be reasonably priced if anyone wants to look into tracking one down.

I would say it doesn't really get moving until volume 7. There is a lot of character and world building. Volume 13 onwards gets even better.
I’ve read all of invincible up until a couple years now, knowing it was coming to an end, I decided to just wait and digest the end all at once. Been on since the beginning, so just single issues, no collected editions.

Having finished the first Invincible HC last night I have to say I thought it moved the story along well and there are some key meaningful developments in the first book.

My last two IST orders which I made within hours of eachother (gotta get that 2%) were comprised of the following:

Nice haul. :D
What is Black Beetle Kara Bocek about ? Do you know Kara Bocek means Black Beetle in turkish ? :D Is it an adventure in Turkey or something ?
Welcome Zane! And impressive haul! Be sure to let us know how you like some of those. There's more than one I don't think I've heard of before.
Welcome Zane! Nice haul. I've been meaning to check out Black Beetle at some point. I did really enjoy Velvet. :)
Should I wait to read any Plague of Frogs until after I read Hellboy Library Editions 1 through 6? I've read the first Library Editions two so far and I recently acquired vol 1 HC of Plague of Frogs.

As for Hellboy, you should read up to Hellboy LE 4. Best reading order is found here:

Thanks for the list. Vol 3 LE is out of stock on IST. They do keep reprinting them so I may just wait for the next reprint.

My first real entry into Marvels universe, read the Infinity OHC already and was really pleased with it. Kind of frightened to pick up Age of Apocalypse though.
The Ghost in the Shell DLX Edition was a gift and I'm looking forward for my second manga experience after Akira ;-)
The Absolute Promethea 3 is a wildcard, it just was extremely cheap to get, part of a sale. Now I need to grab volume 1 and 2 as well, sigh.

Even though I loved them, I read them really slowly to enjoy them and still revisit them more than other books.
Age of apocalypse is just a different era of story telling, very nostalgic for some people, some great ideas but a lot of bombast. I have that Omnibus because I’m an X completist mostly, but don’t get as much out of it as Claremont’s early Uncanny.

Wicked/Divine is one of my favorite series, hope you enjoy it too! Would be interested to see what you think of Ghost in the Shell. I'm new to manga as well currently reading DeathNote (and loving it) with Akira coming next.

Re: AKIRA. It’s sparse on dialogue so this isn’t a total surprise, but I read that so fast. It’s like 2000+ pages and I finished it in weeks, could not put it down. And art is ridiculous, the background to everything is a crumbling city that Otomo keeps redrawing in interesting ways.

Let us know what you think of the ending. I’ve never read it, but I have AD After Death and Trillium and although I enjoy both stories, I also find both endings a bit abrupt and lazy.

To me, semi-related to endings, his stories feel like fables.

I ordered the hardcover Vision by King and it came in yesterday. I am happy to report that it is OHC size and not standard size. :)

Anyone comment on WW absolute?
I don’t read any DC but I love Greek mythology and hear that angle is played up. Plus I love Cliff Chiang. My other absolute are Preacher and Sandman (both great editions) and Watchmen (brilliant obviously, but nothing too special about the Absolute format).

Yes it's worth it. I've got the absolute volume 1, the artwork is great.

In other news, I revisited Waids Cap Omni after disappointment with the first few issues and once it turns into more of a single issue/single problem run with overarching things (not unlike his Daredevil) it got better. Also Garneys art was pretty busy and 90’s-ish at the start but got better and I actually lied the fill in artists. Not a must have Omni but for Cap or Waid fans it’s ok-to-pretty good.

I'm excited about finally checking our Irredeemable, but may just wait to get 4 and 5 (later this year) to read it all in one go.

The Gruenwald years with Cap ends with over a year long build up to Cap dying. Waid picks up from the death onwards so the initial run he did is a bit out of sync with the story without the Gruenwald issues. I was a kid reading these issues when they came out so there is some nostalgia factor for me with the early Waid issues. :)

I would recommend waiting for all of the Irredeemable books to be released. Waiting a year between books really destroys the pacing and details are forgotten (at least by me.) Now I'll probably end up waiting for the last book and rereading it all straight through.

Nice! I'm hoping they continue printing the Daredevil omnibuses collecting this material. MMW are great though!
