Lono | 62 comments Just finished the deluxe edition of The Sixth Gun (IDW)and it's a great read and a nice book. About the size of the Absolute editions. Some cool extras too. Ordering the vol 2 deluxe this week if that's any indication how much I liked it.

message 302: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share I just read your review on it. I've never heard of it, but I'll check it out.

message 303: by Lono (new)

Lono | 62 comments I'm glad I waited on this series and can pick up the deluxe books. They're pretty sweet.

message 304: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share I found a way of getting the death of captain America omnibus. There is a book company under the American amazon site that sells it and does international post, but it would cost me $300! I've asked for photos of it as it's second hand.

Definitely check their reviews. I've had good and bad experiences with the third party sellers.

Yup, always do. Even better, I just found a really good copy on Amazon Germany (English version Book) for $220!

Nice! And probably cheaper with shipping and other international fees.

I'm definitely not above getting a used copy for OOP stuff.

Frank | 170 comments Daredevil Run, 6 volumes. They just sold a set on Ebay yesterday, missed it, how often do they come up??
Although I have done some reading at several of your suggestions, I have to keep watching.

Hi Frank, why do you refer to it as 6 volumes? Are you refferring to the Frank Miller x 2, Bendis x 2 and Brubaker x 2 omnibuses?

There are some on the UK site.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_fro...

always worth asking them to post internationally, some of them already are.

message 310: by Frank (new)

Frank | 170 comments @Alistair, see below, it is six volumes. Are these omnibuses or just OHC?

Ah i see these are just OHC's.

message 312: by Frank (new)

Frank | 170 comments Misleading as they call them omnibus on the Ebay page.

message 313: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share Absolutely. Did you buy them? Cheaper than buying the omnibus.

message 314: by Frank (new)

Frank | 170 comments Alistair wrote: "Absolutely. Did you buy them? Cheaper than buying the omnibus."

No, unfortunately I missed them.
Did pick up Secret Warriors though.

message 315: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share There are plenty others on eBay. Secret warriors is a worthy buy.

Frank | 170 comments Alistair wrote: "There are plenty others on eBay. Secret warriors is a worthy buy."
Thanks, what about Secret Wars, and Infinite Crisis Omni, I see they are very expensive!

message 317: by Relstuart, Mod+ (new)

Relstuart | 2964 comments Mod
I don't think the Infinite Crisis omnibus is worth it. I thought the story was pretty convoluted. So much going on with so many characters. Identity Crisis on the other hand, is worth reading. There are a two very superbly done scenes I would think about ranking in my top 10 most impressive scenes of all time from a graphic novel in that story.

I haven't read Secret Wars. I didn't hear a lot of strong positive comments except from people who read it as kids (nostalgia factor).

message 318: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
I agree with REL on Infinite Crisis as well as Identity Crisis. The second is definitely worth reading and the Absolute edition is really cheap <$40. I think the only thing nice about Infinite Crisis is the art.

Secret Wars is average to me. Having read it then and now, it's just ok. If you can get it cheap, it's a piece of Marvel history and the art is pretty nice. A couple minor characters debut in it. SW2 is terrible. Just stay away from it.

message 319: by Frank (new)

Frank | 170 comments Thanks I can save money on those, expensive.
Is this the one Identity Crisis you both are referring to?
What then is Absolute Identity Crisis?
Hey one more question, did they make a HC Omnibus JLA Volume 2, I can't find anything on it, on trade ppbk?

I am referring to a HC version.

message 321: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
That's the correct story, just in a regular hardcover size. The Absolute IC is the same thing, but in a larger physical size and IIRC there are no extras. Basically, the absolute is a nicer presentation of the same story for almost the same price.

I purchased mine from this ebay seller:

nice i've not read for all seasons, any good?

I've just received my uncanny x-men omnibuses. They rekindle so much love that i have for the x-men, completely forgot how much of a fan i am of claremont's stuff. I still think it's the best x-men run ever. Can't wait to read it.

I used to watch the cartoon which was fantastic. Still have it on my hard drive.

Jesse I think they announced some new ST comics (based on the new cinematic version) at SDCC.

For all seasons is like the "color" series that Loeb/Sale did for Marvel. It has that same feel. Worth a read.

For all seasons has a good story. the art takes some getting used to but in the end it kind of fits.

Ive been reading Johnson's ST Ongoing series. Its ok occasionally very good. I will say I have zero interest in the ST/Green Lantern crossover series!

I'm actually pretty curious about the crossover Star Trek/Green Lantern story. :) I read a bunch of Star Trek novels as a teen (bought a box of them for 25 cents each at a book sale, mostly original case and a few Next Gen) but never read any in comic-book format.

I'm kinda addicted to ST novels. I'm also more interested in the ST/Planet of the apes crossover than GL. Morbid curiosity perhaps.

Aildiin | 130 comments Powers by Bendis is on sale on Comixology right now and I am having a real hard time deciding if I go digital or wait for the Omnibus.
The digital sale is a lot cheaper than the Omnibus will be , but still it is a hard decision...( and only the first Omnibus has been announced).

It's a small investment but maybe buy 1 or 2 issues digitally (assuming they are cheap) to see if you like it?

I'm not sure where that series is as far as being finished or continuing. One of the reasons I quit the series was the delays and constant rebooting to number 1, but that was years ago.

You may want to do some research to see if there are enough issues to warrant a second omnibus.

Just some ideas...

message 331: by Aildiin (new)

Aildiin | 130 comments Based on what is on Comixology and on the content of the first announced Omnibus there is enough material for at least 2 Omnibus.
It's actually likely that the 2 extra volumes : Powers : Bureau would not get collected in the Omnibus.

The first Omnibus is supposed to collect #1-37 of the first iteration of Powers so that would leave #1-30 of the second iteration for a second Omnibus and maybe #1-11 of the first iteration.

That still leave the 12 issues of Powers : Bureau.

What I am wondering is what quality of the Omnibus and the binding are going to be and whether the art is good enough to warrant a physical copy in my bookcases.

message 332: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
I see. Oemings art is cool, but it's fairly simplistic. It kind of has the look of the Bruce Timm animated shows. That's probably worth googling some images to see what you think.

I'm sure they put those on sale, right before the Omnibus comes out just to mess with you.

message 333: by Aildiin (last edited Jul 15, 2015 01:25PM) (new)

Aildiin | 130 comments On an unrelated side note I have a 30 inch monitor at work that can be set in Portrait mode and if you switch that configuration , reading comics on the computer is BEAST!. ( DC absolutes look tiny compared to that config)
I read mine on my kindle fire HDX, but that config just can't be compared !
I think I will wait a few years and make myself a digital set-up at home to rival this and maybe then I will start getting more digital comics ( right now I mostly stick to mangas, black and white conan and the occasional real cheap deal for more modern stuff).

message 334: by Aildiin (last edited Jul 15, 2015 02:02PM) (new)

Aildiin | 130 comments Well after thinking about it I think I will go digital but only get the equivalent of the first Omnibus (the full first season, issue #1-37).
That will cost me 33$, compared to an Omnibus coming at 125$ that I should have been able to get at 70$ or so and it should give a good sampling of the serie and if I really likeit I'm sure they will redo a digital sale at some point in the future before releasing the second Omnibus...

There's a lot of stuff I plan to get in physical form in the next 6 months so getting a few things in digital will save me space in my bookcases...

message 335: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
Cool. I'll be interested in what you think of it. I plan to do a reread at some point.

message 336: by Aildiin (new)

Aildiin | 130 comments It's going to be a while.
I am working my way through Knightfall in digital form and then I have Knightquest, Knightsend, Superman doomed crossover and a few savage sword of conan.( all the good digital deals are around Comic Com or Black Friday so I just stocked up for a while).

Frank | 170 comments Picked up several titles for myself, again looking at the other publishers.
Fables Vol. 1 trade, Manhattan Projects Vol. 1 HC, and Velvet Vol. 1 trade.

The Lion's Share Guys I went mad again. This is what I've got in the past 2 weeks.

No more now :S

description

I managed to get some brilliant deals. Got stiffed a little on criminal vol 2, but worth it.

Got a great deal on the Thor Simonson omnibus, it's brand new and HUGE!

message 340: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
Wow. I can't believe you found the Simonson Thor. I've basically given up on finding that at a decent price. All good stuff.

message 341: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share It was pure luck. I wasn't even looking for it.

message 342: by Sage (new)

Sage (thaczero) | 96 comments Nice haul man!!! I quite enjoyed Locke and Key even though I'm not a fan of the horror genre. A nice change from your typical super hero storylines.

message 343: by Aildiin (last edited Jul 16, 2015 08:00AM) (new)

Aildiin | 130 comments I need to get those 2 Uncanny X-Men Omnibus, especially now that the third Omnibus has been announced.
I'm just afraid of how much I will have to pay for the first one...

I import a lot of french comics too so I don't buy as many US comics as some of you guys...

message 344: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share I got mine on eBay. It is hard to get. Again I was quite lucky.

message 345: by Relstuart, Mod+ (new)

Wow, Nice haul indeed Alistair. The complete Brubaker Cap is great stuff. I recommend picking up the Fallen Son OHC to read right after the Death of Cap omnibus. The Simonson Thor is very nice and I can't help but agree Claremont's X-men is good stuff. :) I have yet to read Brubaker's Sleeper, Criminal, or Incogneto.

I've been feeling unwell so haven't been keeping up with reading like I want to. I'm digging into the X-Men AoA Companion omnibus and Aaron's Thor OHC 2. I'll probably make some progress on those over the weekend. Cheers.

Got a free $10 from Amazon in prime day so finally bit the bullet and picked up the Millar Wolverine Omnibus. I have all of it in singles but I really liked Old Man Logan.

Solid pick up. I've been tempted to grab that one too. I didn't see the $10 off thing. Is that still going on?
