Thanks for the heads up! Ordered Tokyo Ghost dcbs variant and Locke and Key v1 to get free shipping.

Donovan | 1154 comments Nice. Yeah I was dumb and did an IST order last week. Oh well. Glad I glad the black cover instead of cream. It doesn't go with the series!

Recently acquired:

The Mighty Thor Omnibus vol. 2 Esad Ribic Variant

The Eternals Omnibus by Jack Kirby!

Captain Britain Omnibus(!) with the Variant Cover

and Absolute Y: The Last Man Vol. 3

Been hawking ebay a ton lately, and managed to find some pretty good deals on the Eternals and Captain Britain omnibus, two things I never thought I'd own.

Also have the Hickman omnibus on its way!

Ha!

Yeah, if I was so inclined I could totally flip this and The Eternals omnibus and easily double my money; some of the asking prices for these books are just colossal.

But I'm buying for keeps. At this point, I've probably accrued more value than I've invested, which is pretty cool.

Seeing the fluctuation of value of these books is fascinating.

That captain Britain omnibus is tough to find. Congrats on all of them!

message 2808: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments So, just to be clear, the Captain Britain Omnibus listed for $2,900 on Amazon is not a good deal?

Seriously, who are these assholes who even list that!

Nice finds! I'd love to get Captain Britain at some point but I've pretty much written it off for now. I'm pretty patient, so I'm hoping for a reprint.

I read that at one point Marvel thought of bringing Captain Britain into the MCU but changed their minds. Maybe there's hope for the future and will lead to a reprint.

Nickviola | 1019 comments Yeah it was listed as July, then moved to January on Amazon but that must have been an error. Definitely out today

The Lion's Share Can't find it on available on any uk store.

message 2816: by Paul (last edited Jul 13, 2017 06:37AM) (new)

Paul (paulsaini) | 163 comments I'm planning to get quite a bit over this fall; I think a lot of us are with all the releases and reprints coming. I've kept my spending down but managed to get these over the last 6 or so weeks for good prices:

Uncanny X-Men Omnibus Vol 3
Cosmic Odyssey Dlx
Daredevil End of Days Dlx
Jessica Jones The Pulse TPB (wanted to read this after Alias)
52 Omnibus
Batman/Two Face - Face the Face Dlx
Supeman Red Son Dlx (found a sealed copy for $15 above retail...my favourite Superman story after Kingdom Come)
Batman: Bruce Wayne Fugitive & Murder TPBs
Tokyo Ghost OHC
AD After Death OHC
Alex + Ada OHC
Invincible Vol 2 (still need vol. 4 and 9 to 11)
Ghostbusters Mass Hysteria (book 2)

Also expecting Hickman's Avengers Omni to arrive shortly. I was in for Dreadstar Omnibus Vol 2 but that's been pushed to next year. Also looks like Wicked/Divine Book 2 in now out this fall.

Dreadstar Omnibus Vol 2 has been pushed for next year for at least the last 3 years.... so don't expect it or don't pre-order with it included. :(

Paul, nice find with Red Son! I'd still like to get a copy myself.

Yeah, I'm going to be picking up a lot this fall/winter so I'm trying to take it easy on spending right now.

Steven Carver (stevencarver) | 5 comments Would someone who picks up the Avengers Hickman omni share what the reading order is in this edition? The two series collected have never been collected together before, and I'm trying to decide if I want to also own the omnis along side the already released OHCs of Avengers/New Avengers/Infinity/Time Runs Out/Secret Wars.

Just received Graphic Ink: The DC Comics Art of Darwyn Cooke. It's a nice collection of pinups, covers and complete issues/stories. One of the last things he did were some variant covers and it looks like most, if not all were included, something I was concerned about. The only problem is they are printed across two pages and not only is the gutter loss bad, but the left and right sides of the image do not always line up. Still a really nice book commemorating his DC artwork.

message 2822: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments I dont know whats going on over at IST, but looks like Hickman Avenger's Omnibus is already out of stock and despite being the #1 seller the Doctor Strange: Sorcerer Supreme Omnibus is 63% off at only 46 dollars.

message 2823: by Reece (new)

Reece (mrrallentando) | 309 comments I'm sure they'll get more of Hickman's Avengers Omni in stock again.

They're currently doing a customer appreciation sale so if you've purchased with them recently you'll get an extra 3% off instead of the typical 2%.

I can confirm the reading order for the Hickman omnibus is the Hickman approved order per a post from someone at Marvel on twitter a couple weeks back. I think I saw some pictures floating around the internet of the table contents that supported this.

I have all the OHCs and not sure I really want to buy the content again.

message 2827: by guanaeps (new)

guanaeps (saethron) | 88 comments I haven't seen that order, I'll just post it since it came in:

Avengers 1-3
New Avengers 1-3
Avengers 4-5
New Avengers 4-6
Avengers 6-13
and then its the same order as in the Infinity OHC
Silver Surfer Against the tide
Cover Gallery
The Shang-Chi comic
Astonishing Tales: Mojoworld 1-6

It's a gorgeous book.

I got in the Y the Last Man Absolute volume 3. Now I need to read vol 2 and 3. I don't know that I needed this one in Absolute as I'm not sure the art really benefits from the bigger pages versus the large pages in the DLX.

I also picked up the new Dr. Strange omnibus. It was so cheap (62% off cover) I figured this was possibly the best time to pick it up and if I didn't care for it I could add it to the trade/sell pile.

I also picked up the Batman Broken City by Azzarello DLX (which was good, need to write a review) and tried out the Divinity DLX from Valiant. Great art but needed to be longer and would probably benefit from having knowledge of other Valiant characters (I don't except Bloodshot).

I also picked up and read the Tokyo Ghost DLX. I had read the first trade but waited for the DLX for the rest of the story. It won't be in my favorite Remender books. Some of the smutty aspects bothered me more than I expected. The casual nudity in the first half didn't bother me and it fit with the depravity of society on the one hand and then the purity of the tech free world and the opportunity finally for the two main characters to finally connect. Overall the art was good (sometimes even great).

message 2842: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments I agree that Tokyo Ghost isn't my favorite Remender. I read it in Issues and seemed like a really bold idea and cool vision but the change from LA to Tokyo was so jarring beyond what I think their desired impact was and the tech / fantasy angle didn't seem to have rules. He said he may revisit it so fleshing out the world would be great. Then again maybe I just need to reread it in a row.

As for Sorcerer Supremer, it's been a fun read so far, glad I picked it up because I was on the fence.

Re: Absolutes: I have Sandman 1, Watchmen, and Preacher 1 is on the way? I will complete Preacher and was going to get V for Vendetta next. I don't know DC lore at all but any other Absolute recs?

This is my 10 cents: Absolutes are a ripoff invented by DC to clean your bank account... be happy with OHC, deluxes and Omnis.
The overpiced Absolutes with 400 (!!!) pages or less, for plus 70$ is a steal... to our pockets.

Ex: Sandman
Omnis - 2 books - total: 150$ (full price)
Absolutes - 5 books - total: between 250-350$

message 2844: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Ha, seems reasonable. Thanks!

message 2845: by Paul (new)

Paul (paulsaini) | 163 comments Agree that Absolutes are quite expensive, but I feel they are worthwhile for some series, especially if you really love the story. I don't have many myself but I only buy them if I love the story and plan to read them several times over. Having stories like Dark Knight Returns, Long Halloween/Dark Victory, Hush and Kingdom Come are really enjoyable in the oversized print. I'm personally looking to eventually get Preacher, WW, Ronin and possibly Watchmen. For Sandman, I agree the omnibuses are the better value.

message 2846: by boymeetscomics (new)

boymeetscomics | 79 comments Absolutes are expensive but I will only buy them if its an artist I love. In my case, I'm a huge Jim Lee fan and I think his Batman Hush comics were his "absolute" best work :) I own both Batman Hush Absolute and Superman For Tomorrow Absolute. Now if only his Claremont/Lee X-Men run can be Absolutes too....

message 2847: by Relstuart, Mod+ (new)

Relstuart | 2964 comments Mod
I think the Absolutes predate the omnibus/OHC proliferation to a great degree. So initially there was no plans to have oversize and then also Absolute size prints. Plus, the original Absolutes had cover prices of $50 and then $75 which are now cheaper than nearly every omnibus. So originally the Absolute was kind of a one-of-kind thing for just a few special stories.

I love the format for several of the books I have. JLA/Avengers with Perez art looks great and I am very happy to have one of my favorite stories (Kingdom Come) in Absolute format. It isn't needed for everything and sometimes there is no real benefit art-wise for an Absolute versus omnibus/OHC size.

message 2848: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Thank you all for the great Absolute comments. I love this forum, by the way.

New question: I have a torn up paperback of V for Vendetta and it was one of the stories that got me back into comics as an adult, looking to upgrade to a hardcover. Any comment of the best version? From what I can tell Absolute is the only hardcover format in print?

message 2849: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
I think I have the same tpb as you. As far as I know the absolute is all there is. I like the story but don't love it so if I can get the absolute for about $40 I'd be happy.

message 2850: by Paul (new)

Paul (paulsaini) | 163 comments Aside from the absolute, there are also 'library binding' hardcovers for a number of D.C. and Vertigo stories. The are the same size as trades, with decent paper stock and glossy hardcover. Bindings are glued but don't usually have too much gutter loss. I have a number of these and like them vm. I prefer them to TPBs if I have to buy the story in standard size trim.

You can get V for Vendetta in that hardcover variant if you don't want to pay for the Absolute. I have read about some people complaining the V Absolute has pages fall out but have a look yourself.

Here's V with library binding (and it does cost more than TPB...it's supposed to be more hard wearing):
