What have you added to your collection recently?
@Sage - now that I can see your pics: Impressive!
EDIT: Is that the Gentle Giant Captain America Shield bookend? I've been thinking about getting it. Are you happy with it?

I try to read a DC/Marvel Omni followed by an 'Indie'... So now I'm on Indie (Revival) and will follow it with some Green Arrow I think. I'll get to the Crisis soon.

I imagine the Mjolnir booked would work fine with video games/DVD/BR media but it sucks for books.
The Robotech ones are the best... I wish I still had my Roy one but I sold them ages ago.
Al - Sure, there are a few things (Wolverine by Frank), Age of Apocalypse and a bunch of DD stuff... been pretty lucky with eBay and Auction Sniper over the past year as well as r/comicsswap. Also I live close to a shop that operates like IST/CGN in that their base price is 40% off of cover MSRP so it's pretty easy to build a collection when you aren't dropping $100+ per Omni.
I was a heavy comic collector in the late 80s / early 90s but I moved overseas and comic purchasing was incredibly difficult in the country I moved to... so I kinda missed out on about 10 years worth of comics.
Thankfully with the success of Marvel's early movies and an explosion of talented writers, I feel we're in a comics renaissance... since about 2000ish we've had some amazing storlines and writers come out.. not just for Marvel but DC and Image and the others. My friends and kids ask me if I'm loyal to one publisher but really, at this point I seek writers more than titles.
Anyway, I got really tired of buying single issues and storing them in bags/boards/boxes so when the publishers started putting out Omnibus and Deluxe editions it just made sense to start going that route.
I really wish DC would put out some Batman and Superman Omnis....

I used to be a DC and Marvel only person, because I was such a noob. It broadened my mind when I went into a comic shop in London and stumbled upon on a few titles like Zero and Ten Grand and it just blew up from there onwards. The best thing about image is they tend to keep the same artist throughout most runs.
I just wish there were more omnibuses out there and more comic shops in the UK.
DC need to pull their finger out the arses and definitely do a batman omnibus.
What Batman stories/runs do you guys think should be collected? There so much that I've never read.

No Man's Land (because I haven't read it)
Hush (because it was a pretty good setup... bland ending)
The Killing Joke (because Moore)
Death in the Family (because Jason Todd was stupid)
That weird vampire series
Knightfall (kinda important)
Dark Knight Returns (1,2 and 3)
Or heck, even some of the New 52 stuff. I
That's a good list Sage. I'd like a No Man's Land for sure. Depending on how good it is, hoping for an Absolute of DKR3. They just released a Contagion/Legacy TPB which I've never read. I've also never read the Bruce Wayne Murder/Fugitive series.
There's also some Denny O'Neill stuff, some of which should be in the Neal Adams omnibus coming soon. He had a fairly long run IIRC (O'Neill).
I'm going to reread Snyder's Death of the Family. That ending just ruined it for me although I loved the buildup. Maybe I missed something when I read it. So far Court of Owls and maybe DOTF is all I would get from Snyder (personal preference).
Even though Batman is one of my favorite characters, he hasn't had that many memorable runs despite being around for 75 years.

I really liked Knightfall. I'd love it in a couple omnibus editions.
Hush has an Absolute. Not sure an omnibus is necessary but perhaps a deluxe edition one of these days.
No Man's Land and War games are long enough for omnibus. As is Murder/Fugitive and perhaps Legacy/Contagion.
Tomasi's run is long enough. Batman Eternal needs an omnibus. We are getting a Neal Adams Batman omnibus and the classic years. So they are doing something at long last. Morrison's Batman run could work in an omnibus format. Or they would just do another Absolute and it would all be available in that format.

Just ordered Aaron's Thor Vol 1 and Layton Iron Man Omnibus. I plan to order the GL Omnibus next week (wipe out my monthly budget in the first week.)
The next few months are dry for me on new releases, so I'll be going back to pick up some Absolute Editions.

This morning I ordered Y the Last Man Absolute 1, Black Vortex and Autumnlands TPB 1. They were all 52% off cover. Thor OHC 2 didn't get the half off discount so I'll add him to my next order.
I liked the Long Halloween Absolute too. Interesting story. I need to add the Dark Victory Absolute to my library eventually.

Green Lantern Omni - G. Johns
FF Hickman Vol. 2
Captain America Brubaker Return of the Winter Soldier & Trial of Captain America, trying for Vol. 1-3.
Guardians of the Galaxy & X-Men Black Vortex HC
Also, picked up on ebay,
War of Kings Omnibus
John Carter Warlord of Mars Omnibus
Guardians of the Galaxy Abnett Vol. 1 HC
Secret Warriors is still eluding me.
can anyone tell me about 5 Ghosts from Image, looks interesting.
I was curious about five ghosts too. I think Rel just reviewed it .
Man, you are making me think about those last two Cap omnis.

is vol 5 the last of the cap run?

Really sucks, that will be on hold.
You can get them on In Stock Trades.
Read the review of 5 Ghosts, three stars, mixed reviews. So with that I'm not sure. So much that i already picked up to read!!
@Frank, yeah that sucks to have to wait (and I wouldn't read them without the first 3). It wouldn't surprise me to see at least the first volume reprinted next year when the Cap 3 movie comes out (at least that's my hope.)
@Alistair, that book really makes me smile when I think about it.

Rel, it looks like you don't have Watchmen listed in your collection and I don't remember seeing it on your shelves. Have you never read it?
You'll have to let us know what you think about the God of Thunder OHC Alistair. :)
Frank, I know the omnibus editions are better but much of the early part of the Brubaker Cap run has also been printed in thick paperbacks if you want an inexpensive way to check out the story.
Blindzider, I saw the Watchmen movie but have yet to read the book. It's on my long I need to eventually buy this list.
Frank, Five Ghosts is fun but if you are just getting into reading this sort of thing again I think there are probably to many really good things you should check out before spending on it.

Oh wow, in my opinion it should be the next thing you read, although the movie is actually pretty close. It's a multi-read through story though: it has many layers of meaning and themes.

Rel, what do you recommend other than Five Ghosts? It looked interesting. Outside of Marvel and DC, there are so many new publishers such as Image that put out the grittier graphic books, which are the best. Over the years I have seen the movies, Watchmen, Sin City etc.
Planetary omnibus is worth picking up. BZ speaks pretty highly of Watchmen and the Deluxe is pretty reasonably priced. The Planet Hulk is really good even though I've never thought of myself as a Hulk fan. There are 6 Daredevil omnibus volumes out. I've really liked each one of them. If you watched the Netflix Daredevil the Bendis and Brubaker runs are where they went to for the feel for the show IIHO. All of them are OOP but there are some complete collection TPB out that collect the runs.
Since you are interested in cosmic stuff you should look into Geoff Johns Green Lantern omnibus. I don't have any other reading background on the character and I really like it. Second omnibus comes out at the end of this month.
I'm just getting into Image. You can pick up the first TPB volumes of several of their series very cheaply on IST. I've liked Black Science, LOW, Starlight, Birthright, and East of West if you are looking to check out series outside of DC and Marvel. What I've done is picked up one here and there with other orders to make sure I get to $50.

All good recs, I especially enjoyed Planetary (which was something I picked up on a whim), Planet Hulk (not really a Hulk fan either), and Bendis and Brubaker's Daredevil. Not a stinker in the bunch. Nice comparison to the Netflix show too, spot on.

except they killed off Ben Ulrich! :(
I'd say the daredevil run from Bendis through to Brubaker is the best run in comics i've ever read.

Thanks so much for the info. After reading all everyone wrote, already ordered the Green Lantern 1st Vol. Omnibus, waiting on it to arrive.
I just put Planetary Omnibus on my wish list, looks interesting.
I will look at those Image titles. Does Image do these type of titles in HC, and ever do Omnibuses?
Thanks again.
I still have to look into DC, LOL.

This group is such a great source for my education into this.
Thanks to everyone, who chime in.

Image do deluxe versions, look at my image shelf in my photos of my book case. They have some frickin awesome stuff. I think by 2020, Image will be as big Marvel in comic sales especially if Marvel keep going down the politically correct stance of introducing and changing characters skin colour, gender and sexuality just to keep people interested. When image do it, you don't even blink an eye, because they don't have to change existing characters or worlds. They have got the right idea with indie comics.
excuse my rant.

Check out Rel's Image thread for more info on deluxes.
Yep, I've been reading mainly Marvel for 30 years and they've finally turned me away except for a few exceptions. I still like to read comics so Image has been getting my attention a lot more. It's tough waiting for the hardcovers though...
I finally ordered the John Carter of Mars Marvel omnibus. I read most of the Tarzan books and several of the Mars series as a kid. $25 with free shipping is probably about as low as it's going to go. I recently saw the new movie. It wasn't really that bad. Better than Cowboys and Aliens, The Lone Ranger, or Indiana Jones 4.
There was a Disney funded movie a couple years ago called John Carter of Mars. It's based on a novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs (who also wrote the Tarzan novels). It's about an American southerner out of the old west that gets transported to Mars where the gravity difference means he has disproportionate strength vs the natives. Marvel had a comic books based on the novels running from 1977 to 1979. Not sure how good it it. The movie bombed hard at the box office and the omnibus has been going for very cheap for some time. It's one omnibus that probably lost money for Marvel

Gotcha. It's actually only the 4th biggest flop of all time. 8th if you adjust for inflation. 47 Ronin, Mars needs Moms, and the 13th Warrior are the biggest 3 in history with 13th Warrior being the biggest with inflation adjustment.

1. It was marketed horribly... 'John Carter'? What a stupid name.
2. The source material was originally written in what, the early 1900s? The stuff was cutting edge Sci Fi then but by now it just seems cliched.
I haven't read the Omni yet. I picked it up on the cheap too.
For those asking about Image, their Deluxe editions are really good. Similar to Marvel OHCs but with extras.

Well you mentioned the Brubaker 5 Captain America volumes. After reading the small Vol. 1 of the first Omnibus, I decided to go ahead and get them.
Well I located Volume 4&5 on IST, and was able to pick up Volumes 1-3 on ebay.
Looking forward to everything arriving.

Ah Frank, i'm doing the same, but i can't get vol 2 anywhere not even on ebay worldwide. Amazon is selling it for ridiculous amounts, absolute joke.
Congrats Frank! I think you will be satisfied with the story.
Best of luck Alistair. There is one on ebay in Canada, but I'm not sure what your price limit is, then adding all of the shipping fees...
