Omnibus/OHC Graphic Novel Collectors discussion

What have you added to your collection recently?
At this point I'm not very hopeful we will see any more of Fraction's Iron Man. I hope I'm wrong because I would spring for a volume 3 for sure but letting this much time go by without another volume is usually a sign Marvel isn't going to print any more of the run. The first two are still worth picking up especially if you want to know how Marvel redeemed the character after Civil War. :)

Sorry, there is no volume 3 Fraction Iron Man OHC. :( I've been told there is enough material for one or perhaps even a fourth OHC. I haven't bothered to try to chase down the standard size HCs (assuming they exist) or the TPB volumes with the rest of the material. The first two are worthwhile reads though. :)
Alistair wrote: "I didn't even know there was a volume 3. Bollocks I've just ordered vol 1&2! I'll have to get the TPBs or are their OHCs???"
The rest of his run is in TPB, but there are no other OHCs. There might be regular premiere HCs but I've never looked because I don't like them.
Even if they did more OHCs it will probably take 2-3 more unless they expanded them.
Disappointing, isn't it?

Thanks. I'll still enjoy them, i just hate not having the complete series, that's another thing that peeved me off about the ultimate spiderman omnibus.
My bookcase just arrived. It bloody massive, it came two weeks early so now i've got to unpack it and stand it up. I'll send photos once completed.

Here this should help you...

Don't forget vol 2 of FF. as well t..."
Is that Vol. 2 of FF by Hickman? I thought that wasn't yet released?

I was watching it on line and checked Amazon, too pricey. Then walked into a store and found it on shelf, purchased it for cover price , I was lucky.
Both the Hickman FF omnibus volumes have been released. Good stuff and you are going to want volume 2 after your read volume 1 for sure. =)
Nice snag on Annihilation. :)

I second Rel that you will want the Hickman FF V2.
I watched Annihilation for months and kept putting it off (because I'm not a huge cosmic fan.) Now it's too late but I don't want to even pay cover if I found it in a store.

Then Rel and I won't talk about collecting statues...yet.
Then Rel and I won't talk about collecting statues...yet.

My problem is I am a completest, not good, and I haven't even touched on DC yet.
Statues??
Really??
Is this one worth picking up? Green Lantern Omnibus
GL omnibus is probably my next purchase. There are enough people here that praise it that it is worth getting.
The statues are of comic book characters made by different companies. The one I prefer is Bowen designs. Rel and I are members of statuemarvels.com which is a forum for fellow collectors. Feel free to drop by and see what it is about. But fair warning: it isn't a cheap hobby and I once you are in, there's no leaving. Mwah ha ha!

My GL omnibus arrived today, so yes Frank buy it and all the other volumes, which are due out this year and next. It's probably Geoff Johns' best work.
Statues, eh no way. I went down that road years ago, didn't work well for me so I ended up selling everything and made a massive loss.
Though I did make a killing on those Marvel lead figurines. I paid £6.50 ($10) for a Phoenix variant, sold it for £70 ($100) !!!! That was just one figure!

Alistair - have you read the Johns GL Omni yet or are you simply familiar with the stories? I enjoyed it more than the Flash Omnis.
I found the JSA Omni for a reasonable price...the 3rd one just came out right?

I avoided flash because it never really grabbed me , plus reviews look average, but GL has such a large roster of likeable characters, it's quite good at times. However, saying that it's very old school DC. I wish they would bring it down to earth a bit (no pun intended) I dislike the way everyone in DC comics is ripped like Arnie and the women are like Baywatch lifeguards. It's unrealistic.

There is no way I will get into statues at this time, other than one or two that I may just like to have as an accent for me shelves.
My concentration is on the books. Although I must say I am going crazy in all different directions, trying to tie together storylines with these HC's and omni's, so many being OOP.
Another question, what does everyone think of Secret Warriors? Is that omnibus a complete storyline.
In the meantime I will probably order the GL omnibus.
It's been awhile since I read Secret Warriors but from what I remember it was a complete story. The art varies and is a little distracting at times but the story was good. Keep in mind it was borne out of Secret Invasion I believe, just so you know when in the Marvel Universe it took place. Some of the Winter Soldier movie came from this book, and some of the TV series Agents of SHIELD are based on this as well.

You can get away with reading it without though. I'm just saying. Spend spend spend. :)

So order would be -
1. Seige
2. New Avengers
3. Dark Avengers
4. Secret Warriors?
What about Brubaker's Cap Omnis?
What about Brubaker's Cap omnibus volumes? They are fantastic. One of the greatest Cap runs of all time. In my top 5 best comic book runs. Secret Warriors is very good. I really liked it. Didn't buy the omnibus because I have them all in standard HCs. To expensive to trade up now.

I think it comes between vol 6&7 of new avengers. I read dark avengers before secret warriors, but you can't really get it perfect unless you do it in a pedantic fashion by issue.

I agree with Rel that it is top notch. I personally think it's the best Marvel put out in the last 10-15 years

I'm sorry I asked the question, LOL. Now googling Siege and Dark Reign reading orders, it looks as if it is morphing into much more, Nick Fury books, SHIELD etc.
I guess the real problem is that everything is really inter-related (a bit from this series or that series or character run) in all manners, and that there are not the Omnibi of HC's put out in order to handle these story lines properly.
So confusing!!
I know spend, spend!!

Don't be sorry, it's good to share.
I wouldn't worry about going into too much detail in continuity. I'm a completist as well, but you have to realise that some of the tie-ins just aren't worth it. The new avengers run is a good run, not amazing, but definitely worth a read. If you look at my reading challenge you will see that I tried my best to read them in order. However, Secret warriors the omnibus, is really a must read IMO. It's well put together, with great characters and some solid artwork, plus it's written by Hickman who is currently my favourite writer.
Definitely feel free to ask. That's why we are all here, to help each other discover new stories to read.
I agree with Alistair: don't get too caught up in continuity, especially with Secret Warriors. Usually you just need to know one or two facts and that's it.

Alistair - what are your thoughts on Hickman's Avengers run (the newest one that is out in OHC)? I tried to get into it but I just thought they were reaching way too much to make it interesting. Too many characters, weird cosmic stuff. I didn't even get through it... maybe because they're setting up the storyline but I just felt it was a bit too convoluted with no apparent purpose.
Maybe I should read some of the stuff building up to the new OHCs to gain a better appreciation?

Hi Sage,
I recently read the infinity event, which covers Avengers Vol 1&2 and New avengers vol, 2, 3 & 4 I think. To be honest, I do agree that it is too convoluted. For starters there are three avengers titles being written side by side...
New Avengers
Avengers
Avengers World (I missed this, which meant I had no idea why Hyperion was an avenger.)
It's too much. However, saying that, I really enjoyed them and if you've read a lot of Hickman, you'll know that it ALWAYS builds up to a nice tidy satisfying finish :)
I've stopped reading the run because I'm confident they will do an omnibus or three! *crosses fingers* That way I can reread it and make more sense of it all.
There are rumors circulating the Diamond is out of the Annihilation Conquest omnibus. Plenty of venders still have copies. It is not OOP yet. But, if the distributor is out of copies and venders cannot order any more that is usually a sign that a book is headed OOP in the near future.

Wow, that was fast.
I wish diamond would send out notifications on stuff like that. Or Marvel/DC would make it official when something was OOP.

LOL. If you need it. :) Hopefully my copy will come in the mail today.
It was fast. I wondered if Marvel would treat this like a vol 2 to the first Annihilation omnibus and print a smaller run. Looks like the answer is yes. I do wish Marvel would publish their print run numbers.

And, InStockTrades.com now has the Annihilation Conquest Omnibus as not only the top seller, but completely sold out and unavailable for order.

Received my copy yesterday!!

With that I bought:
Guardians of the Galaxy (Bendis) 1,2,3,4, Issue 1-23.
Annilators
Infinity
You mentioned the Cap Brubaker's above, I saw two collections The Trial of Captain America and Return of the Winter Soldier, which titles were you referring to?
Also, saw some massive (page count) Omnibi of Spiderman, wodering which is the best of Spiderman?
There are 5 volumes for Cap's Brubaker, the two you mentioned are V4 and V5, V5 just came out about a month ago.
There are only 6 omnibus for Spider-Man that I can think of:
V1 and V2 (Stan Lee/Ditko/Romita Sr.) These are the very first Spider-Man stories.
Untold Tales of Spider-Man by Busiek. This is written in modern times but takes place between the issues of V1 by Lee.
Spider-Man by McFarlane - Stories are ok but this is the big breakout for McFarlane drawing SM. (Late 90's)
Spider-Man by Roger Stern - older stories (late 60's/early 70's)
Personally I think the Stan Lee volumes are a must because it is the very beginning of SM however the writing is "dated".
I think there is an Ultimate Spider-Man omnibus too if you are interested in that universe.

FYI Frank, for whatever reason Volume 2 (the one with Green Goblin flying on his glider) is difficult to find and commands a high price on the secondary market.
I got super lucky a couple of weeks ago.. passed by a random comic store after going on a field trip with my kid. Picked up the Annihilation Omnibus and then traded someone for the Infinite Crisis Omni!!!

My feelings on the ultimate Spider-Man omnibus are well known. Check out my review of it lol.

Do you mean Fraction's Iron Man? If so, you aren't the only one waiting for it. I think Marvel is mad at him and purposely aren't doing it. The story has been over long enough that it should have been done by now.
