What have you added to your collection recently?
Frank, you only got the Byrne FF v1? Or waiting to see if you like it first before v2?
Eisnein, I imagine you have quite a library. Care to share some pictures?

Sure, thanks Blindzider. They're not great photos, but... they're what I've got. :-)
The new Artist Editions:

I've got books patiently waiting for me to build them a home. The artbooks and deluxe hardcover comics are too heavy for standard bookshelves; they sag and look terrible. This is a small but cool portion arranged into something dangerous and precarious.

@Blindizer - I am picking up the OOP of FFs now, as I find them reasonable priced. Only had the Hickman's so far, backing thru everything before I read the run.
@Aildiin - yes I have almost a full book case to read, oh shit!! Working on completing the first bookcase, only 1 shelf to go.

I think I have an erection. What a collection, lots of good recommendations in that bunch.

Hey Frank, I know you didn't ask me, but man, 100 Bullets is one of my all-time favorites. Not everybody's cuppa tea, but it definitely scratched my noir itch.

Thanks Frank. I have more photos on my profile, and I love 100 Bullets. Risso's artwork is one of the best runs in mainstream comics -- 100 issues, pencilled and inked, every single page a thing of beauty. His style is like early Sin City Miller, with the heavy chiaroscuro inks of Mignola and the clean lines of Milo Manara. Azzarello writes some very nasty hardboiled crime that turns into a thriller about a global conspiracy going back centuries. Fun stuff, and very dark. I liked it enough to buy the 13 trade-paperbacks -- which were printed on the cheapest, shittiest paper I've seen, and made Risso's blacks look awful, something I'll never forgive DC for -- then bought the hardcovers too, since they use a nice, glossy stock. For me, Azzarello and Risso are the only team who do crime comics that match Brubaker and Phillips.

Yep. Hence the name, I guess. :-) Lono is one of the best characters in comics. I miss 100 Bullets. Brubaker and Phillips are great, but 100 Bullets had a feel to it that very few other comics do. It actually made me feel anxious about what might happen next, the same way that The Wire or The Sopranos did back in the day.

Confusing. The characters were hard to for me to disern. Also I think azarello delivers little reward for hanging around for so long (I bought all 5 dlx covers). Saying that it is unique and has some great parts to it but not enough for me to recommend. I'd but volume 1 and check you like it first.

The guys at my shop don't like it either, but it hit the mark for me. I can see why Risso's art or Azz's writing might not appeal. I'd give it a trade or 2 as well, just to see if it's up your alley Frank. And Alistair, I still think you're the bomb.

I think if you liked the first movie, you should like the first book, and That Yellow Bastard. Probably. You have to take Big Damn Sin City in small increments anyway, it's too heavy to read for long. ;-)
I thought that if someone was a fan of Criminal and Sin City, 100 Bullets would be a logical recommendation. It seemed like a halfway point between two stations on the crime comics scale. But nothing's ever that simple, I guess. Recommendations are always a bit of a dice roll.
I can't fairly give my opinion on 100 bullets because I only read the first issue when way back when it came out and didn't care for it. I will say I agree with Alistair on Risso's art: I have a hard time discerning characters and environments sometimes. Also having a read just a couple of Azz's other stories, his writing doesn't appeal to me. There's something about it that just doesn't make sense to me, so I've stayed away from 100 bullets.
I liked about the first 1/2 to 3/4 of the entire Sin City run, although I'm over it now. I love Criminal though, to help frame my viewpoint.
Eisnein, thanks for the picture! Looks incredible!

Glad you found IST. They are definitely the best site for the US and if you can be patient to take advantage of those sales (as you did) you can really pick up some good stuff. I wish I had more funds to buy more. I'm trying to lay low because of Christmas this month...

I'll let you know how I get on with sin city. :)
I read WW also which I liked but afterwards I also felt "meh". Can't wait to hear your review on SC.

LOVE THE WIRE. classic. 5th season was weak at moments, but still better than 99% of the other stuff thats out there.

I will pick up the TP of 100 Bullets and give it a try, because the DLX HC is expensive, Judging by what you mentioned of the artwork, I am not sure, as I have had that same problem with some books, such as Low Vol. 1.
I am waiting for my copy of Big Dam Sin City to arrive from IST (which I echo is the best site - although searching at times can be a problem).
I also picked up a DLX HC of DMZ on sale at a shop, what do you guys think of that series.
Currently I am in the middle of the first DLX HC of the Sixth Gun and enjoying it.

Me too. Everyone is saying it's really dark and a few friends who liked the Netflix DD a lot have commented they didn't like Jessica Jones as much. I need to at least try to get the first episode knocked out soon (ish).
I don't know if we should be happy or apologize for introducing people to InStockTrades. :p Maybe we just owe you wallet the apology. It's a great site for US readers for sure. :)
Those artist editions are so cool. The DC War artist edition coming next year is probably going to be pretty cool.

I'm about halfway through the Netflix series and I don't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the comic series. The comic isn't 5 stars by any means but definitely worth reading.

Thanks Blindzider, I think it was you who mentioned IST and it's a great place for the IDW/Humanoids Deluxe stuff -- hard to find from Canadian sellers.
As 100 Bullets... I can only say that Azzarello writes great hardboiled James Ellroy-style crime, and if that's not your thing, fair enough. Brubaker does Chandler and Hammett-style noir, and does it flawlessly. As for Risso, I never had a problem discerning characters, so I can't agree... but maybe I'm just more used to the style. The difference between Graves and Lono and Jack are pretty huge, although Cole looked a bit like a smaller Lono, I suppose.
But I think Risso is one of the six best artists in mainstream comics. JH Williams, Sean Phillips, Frank Quitely and Mike Mignola make five, and I'll leave the sixth spot open for any one of about ten artists I'm tempted to add... Esad Ribic, Paul Pope, James Harren, Guy Davis, Ariel Olivetti, Darwyn Cooke. (I'd be interested in hearing other people's favorites list, whether it's 6 or 10 or 20.)
Frank, I thought DMZ started well, but I lost interest after the first couple trades, and haven't finished reading the last several books I've had kicking around for a couple years. It might pick up later in the series, but I'm not a big fan of Brian Wood's writing... or Brian Michael Bendis' writing...
As for Jessica Jones, I just finished Season 1 and really enjoyed it. David Tennant was great as Killgrave. I went in with no knowledge of the comics, so I can't compare it, but it stood up well on it's own.
It wasn't The Wire, though, that's for sure. Along with Rome and Game of Thrones -- and Breaking Bad -- one of my all-time favorites.
I enjoyed Rome though it's been years since I saw it.
Favorite five top artists (living): would probably be Don Rosa, Gabriel Dell'Otto, Steve Epting, Alex Ross, and Jim Steranko.
There are a bunch of people that come to mind that I like too, Jim Lee, Alex Maleev, Esad Ribac, Marko Rudy, Mike Deodato and Butch Guice. I like Bruce Timm and Darwyn Cooke though Cooke's interior art sometimes suffers from too much simplicity.

That's a great list. I'm familiar with all but Marko Rudy and Dell'Otto. Steranko's great. I think my next Artist Edition is going to be his Nick Fury Agent of Shield run.

Nothing wrong with treating yourself! Be warned, the Thor is a good read but does not conclude in that book. You have to read/buy one other TPB by Kieron Gillen.
