I agree on Sixth gun, the fact that they are not gloss was the only thing i could point out wrong with the pages, but i could easily look passed that.

I still haven't read East of west yet, i'm saving it for a holiday read.

message 552: by XenofoneX (new)

XenofoneX | 172 comments Yeah, the paper they use is still high quality, so it's not an issue for me at all, either; I believe it's acid-free and archival, which is most important, preventing it from yellowing and becoming brittle.

I'm drawn to both Sixth Gun and East of West -- reading a bit of both.

On a semi-related, weird-western note, I just saw a trailer for a 'Preacher' TV-series... maybe it's old news, but I was pretty surprised. Kevin Smith was threatening to adapt it for years, and now Seth-fucking-Rogen is doing it, with Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer. Looked promising, as did Outcast.

Yeah i saw that yesterday, i hope they do it justice. Preacher is a kickass comic.

Outcast? Great book, are they doing a tv series?

XenofoneX | 172 comments Yes, HBO made sure not to pass on a Kirkman show twice. The trailer looked good, and being an HBO series means it should have excellent writing and direction.

At some point I am going to resell my East of West floppies and get that hardcover too. It's been in my to do list for a while.

Sage (thaczero) | 96 comments Oh neat! Didn't know 11 was out. 10 was so awful I need another one to set the series back on track.

message 566: by Frank (new)

Frank | 170 comments Hello Everyone, thanks for the kind words about my dad. Still dealing with this, what can one do. As with Eisnein, sometimes I lurk in the shadows and don't get the opportunity to chime in.
Just arrived in the mail:
JSA Vol.3 Omni - figured might as well have the set
Futures End 5 Yrs. Later - had several of the series already
Crisis on Infinite Earths DLX HC - wanted to read this one
Hawkeye Omni - heard good things from all
Multiversity - also recommended

On order
Fatale DLX HC Vol. 1 - your recommendations, love noir
Absolute Transmetropolitan - heard good things, what does everyone think about this story?
Guardians of the Gal. Solo Classic Omni
BPRD Plague of Frogs HC Vol. 2, want to get the set before I read.

Surfing Ebay these days for the OOP's, so much there, although some of the pricing is out of control.

You can check my review for Transmet. In the beginning I as hesitant, but once you get going you see where Warren Ellis is coming from with the writing. It may be divisive because of some of the political views and it's a little dated as well.

I have the Hawkeye omnibus and it's probably next on my read list. I've heard positive comments about the art but first glance didn't impress.

I ordered the Guardians Solo omnibus as my order for this week. I returned my damaged copies of Mass Effect and Naja so I should be getting a refund for those soon. I'll probably order another copy of Mass Effect once that happens.

Read the Prometheus Complete First and Stone Dark Horse book and it's worthwhile. Huge and great quality.

I think Fatale DLX vol 2 comes out next week. Looking forward to that. :) My copy of Multiversity should be coming in the mail in the next day or two.

The Lion's Share Received today

Hawkeye omnibus
The sixth gun deluxe v3 :)

message 571: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share I forgot to add I've also ordered battlefields hardcover ohc's for the Gareth Ennis run. I've never read it, anyone here read it. Sounds good.

message 572: by Frank (new)

Frank | 170 comments Hey, thanks for the comments.

Okay, I have been thinking of picking up the Preacher series, but I see there is an Absolute edition announced for mid 2016, should I wait or pick up the six HC's?

I also see all the talk for The Sixth Gun series, is it that good?

Also, the Hellboy Library Series, just lost it on Ebay, shit!!

message 573: by XenofoneX (new)

XenofoneX | 172 comments I'm really enjoying The Sixth Gun; the deluxe hardcovers are definitely the way to go. I see Alistair's already got Vol.3, which just came out... yesterday?

As for Preacher -- I love the series, but it is NOT one I'd personally want in the Absolute format; the hardcovers are the way to go. My reason is the art -- series artist Steve Dillon is pretty bad. He was good with faces and expressions, and was competent enough that the story was still perfectly enjoyable... but he was also incapable of drawing convincing architecture, automobiles, animals, or anything that might require photo reference. Making it bigger just makes things worse. You've gotta love the 90's. This is just my opinion, though... maybe I'm being uncharitable. I haven't looked at Preacher for a couple years, though I've re-read the entire series three times, I think.

message 574: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share I agree Dillon's art ain't great and i would get the hardcovers. Great series, very gory, very sick and very twisted. Everything you'd expect from Garth Ennis.

I'm with you on Preacher, obviously. I just noticed your post above about 'The Fade Out' being 'much better' than Fatale; I haven't read The Fade Out, but I love Fatale, so that bodes very well for the newer series... I hope we see a Dlx HC soon.

I'm looking forward to a Fade Out HC, but I've already decided to pass on Fatale.

message 577: by XenofoneX (new)

XenofoneX | 172 comments Really? It can't be everyone's favorite thing, I guess, but I'm liking it fine; "Raymond Chandler smokes opium with HP Lovecraft and they write a story". I'll call it 'Cosmic Horror Noir'.

message 578: by Blindzider, Moderator (last edited Nov 07, 2015 01:51PM) (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
Yeah, I'm just not into horror stuff. If I could read it for free I'd try it but not going to spend money on a chance. At least not when I have other things I definitely want to get.

message 579: by XenofoneX (new)

XenofoneX | 172 comments I hear you. It's an embarrassment of riches in comics now, for every taste. Great superhero stuff, crime comics, horror, SF, fantasy, action, all kinds of manga, mainstream bande dessinee, literary BD, literary alt-comics, art-comix from around the world, classic newspaper reprints, classic comic-book reprints, classic underground reprints...

It sure is. I'm not happy with superhero stuff from the big two right now so I'm branching out, definitely picking up more Independent stuff mostly from Image.

@Eisnein & Blindzider, even though I am an oldie/newbie, to date the stories I enjoyed the most have come from the Independents, such great writing, the crime, horror, fantasy, action, better than the typical super hero story lines from the 70's and 80's that I remember. Even though I am picking up the superhero omni's I have been leaning towards reading the Independents, with so many good choices and recommendations.

I ordered The Goon Library Edition vol 1 (2 comes in the spring), New Avenges OHC vol 2, and Fatale DLX vol 2. Fatale was the most expensive of the three even though The Goon will be by far bigger and probably more content. I noted Fatale 2 broke the top ten best selling books on IST along with The Goon. The Goon at only $21 is a great deal for such a large oversize books. Dark Horse kills it value wise with their Library Editions.

I tracked down and ordered the first out of print Batman and Robin HC (vol 1 by Tomasi) today. I should finally have all of them. I have the rest of them on the shelf and with 1 I can finally do a read through. :)

message 585: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share nice!

I've just added invincible ultimate collection vol.10 and lone wolf and cub omnibus 10.

message 586: by Relstuart, Mod+ (new)

Relstuart | 2964 comments Mod
Cool. I am currently reading The Goon Library edition volume 1. The author apologizes that some of the early work is pretty unpolished, which is fair. The writing has an odd juxtaposition of violence, zany humor, and horror elements. I'm about half way thru and still not in love with it but I assume it will continue to improve as I know this series has a lot of fans (and a Randy Bowen statue).

message 587: by Frank (new)

Frank | 170 comments Hey Guys, with all these purchases, how about some updated pictures.
Also, just ordered The Sixth Gun HC Vol. 1-3
Preacher HC Vol. 1
Fatale HC Vol. 2
Batman Golden Age Omnibus Vol. 1
New Avengers Omnibus Vol. 1
Also, just received Animal Man Omnibus and Evolutionary War Omnibus.

I you can see I am all over the place. I am looking forward to digging in to Sixth Gun, checking out Preacher since there is to be a show, which I saw the trailer, and Fatale now that I will have the two volumes.

REL how many in the Batman and Robin by Tomasi? Six or seven? My library has 1-6 but I didn't want to start reading if there was a seven and I couldn't get it.

And I second the "more collection pictures"!

Blindzider, vol 7 was just available on IST this week. Bookstores still don't have it so they have all available so far.

I did a picture of all the books I picked up last month. I will try to do another one once some of the things I ordered today come in.

Relstuart | 2964 comments Mod
Cool pick ups. I'll look forward to your Revival review as I remain curious about that series.

I'm confident that the Court of Owls Absolute will look great. I'm holding firm on not picking it up because I have the standard size HCs.

The Goon is a huge book for the price. I paid $21 and some change for my copy and it's just under 500 pages in absolute size.

XenofoneX | 172 comments After hearing about 'instocktrades' here a couple weeks ago, it's now become my 'go to' seller for 'Artist's Editions' and 'Gallery Editions'. I picked up 'Basil Wolverton's Weird Worlds Artist's Edition' and 'Mike Mignola's Hellboy in Hell Artist's Edition'. Both books are incredible, but the Wolverton book is especially nice -- 16" x 22", bigger than the Little Nemo books and Kramer's Ergot 7, and 200 pages... for just $50, down from 125$. I like the Hellboy book just as much, actually, but Mignola draws on much smaller pages, just 12" x 17".
