There is a older science fiction book about a group of human researchers orbiting a planet and observing a society of aliens as they evolve from beginning of society to destroying their civilization with war all within a matter of days or weeks and then it repeats. I don’t remember the author or name of the book. I read this book about 30 years ago or so.
