Bryan Craig Exactly Brian. This book makes you appreciate all the hard work to go into planning a world war, something you miss at the soldier level sometimes.

I think that it is not just tactics and individuals. It is strategic supplies and numbers etc. Colin Powell and the Powell doctrine of not going into Iraq until we had overwhelming force and equipment in place for example.

Bataan fell because the Japanese had overwhelming men and material on the scene - I think that nothing the Americans and Phillipinos could have done with strategy and tactics and morale would have made the Japanese fail in 1941.
