This is a children s book about the Japanese internment camps during WWII. I think the author did an excellent job telling the story but without all the gruesome details so it would be suitable for children. Adding the dog to the story made it especially relate-able for most children. At first Mitzi must leave her home and and dear dog Dash behind. She is able to stay connected by writing letters to him. I am sure you will want to read the book it her the end of the story. It is based on a true story.
