I read a book about two to three years ago. It is a Utopian society which slowly bleeds into a dystopian novel. I remembered the plot randomly out of the blue and since then I have been trying to hunt this book down. I can remember that the book is set in the future where everyone around you had "Mods" and "Alts" to look like an animal, or to have the latest fashion. The city is run by a family, Monarchy type government if I am remembering correctly. The main character and her father are at a party and the main character is an outcast, because she has no mods or alts and only has her natural beauty, which is widely frowned upon in their society. They leave the party and the main character is arguing with her father because he won't allow her to get any mods/alts and prefers her to stay as natural as possible, just like her mother who had passed a while back. I remember their floating type car crashed into the border walls and instantly killed her father, and forced the main character to amputate her legs. She wakes up and meets her robot maid/butler, and she suffers the cruel treatment of her stepmother. She remembers one day about the fairly popular virtual reality game her father had created and decided to play since she was locked up in her room all day long. She meets another character and they pursue a relationship of some sorts all while attempting to complete missions. There are several other characters. When the main character is not playing the game, I think I should mention there is a limited amount of time you are allowed on the game, she tries to contact her best friend, with no luck, as it seems she is blocked off from everyone. She watches her funeral at another failed attempt to contact the outside world. Eventually she was given legs and escapes to meet her love in the real world. It is not the boy whom she thought it was, but the boy's play toy that he uses and abuses to test out mods and alts. Thank you!
