Laura Austin | 20 comments I think the main character was a boy, but there was also a girl tied in somehow, maybe as a secondary main character. I don't think they were romantically involved. They were probably around twelve years old, and one or both of them had to cross between worlds, or at least large amounts of space in an in-between place filled with mist and possibly having illusions or spectres, it was definitely dangerous, and they had to find bridges. I read this book sometime within the last ten years.

Laura Austin | 20 comments I don't think so, but thanks anyway. From the description on Goodreads, that sounds like an interesting book, and I have read several others by Dianna Wynne Jones.

Laura, what's the genre (which we need to add to the topic header) - e.g., fantasy for teens?

Tabitha (epicfunsize) | 78 comments Everlost maybe?

Genesistrine | 575 comments Sounds like it could be InterWorld by Neil Gaiman and Michael Reaves. Joey switches worlds by walking through a fog.

Laura Austin | 20 comments Thanks for trying, but neither Everlast nor Interworks sound vaguely familiar when I read the descriptions.

message 8: by Laura (new)

Laura Austin | 20 comments Sorry, autocorrect misspelled what should be Interworld.

Aelin | 8 comments Are you perhaps looking for the Shadow and Bone trilogy by Leigh Bardugo?

message 10: by Laura (new)

Laura Austin | 20 comments Thanks for trying, but that doesn't sound right either.

RabbitMilitia | 338 comments Probably not your book, asking to rule out because of the fog and crossing over worlds connection- Fog Magic by Julia Sauer?

message 12: by Laura (new)

Laura Austin | 20 comments I don't think that's it either, but thanks.

Mana | 4 comments Is it maybe The Magician's Nephew from the Chronicles of Narnia? There is travelling between worlds in the woods in this one.

message 14: by Laura (new)

Laura Austin | 20 comments Thanks, but that's definitely not it. I don't have anything to do with guinea pigs or magic pools tied to the memory of this book.

message 15: by Laura (new)

Laura Austin | 20 comments Also, I think there was some wizard or magician as the boy's mentor, or maybe some mysterious lady similar to the Lady of the Lake.

message 16: by Laura (new)

Laura Austin | 20 comments But the helper or mentor was definitely there for unselfish reasons, unlike the Uncle Andrew in The Magician's Nephew.

Laura is still looking for this book:

"I read this book sometime within the last ten years, and I remember that the main character, who I'm sure was a boy of maybe ten or twelve years, must cross some in-between space filled with mist and must find a bridge hidden in the mist to re-enter the real world. I think there might have been some malicious force hidden in the mist, and a mentor, maybe a sorcer, warns the boy not to let himself be affected by it. I think that there was also a girl of maybe the same age."
