there is some similarities between the hunger games and divergent, but i wouldn't say that divergent is a copy of the hunger games. divergent isn't a game to win, it is a kind of system to put people "where they belong" and they get to chose where they want to stay. in the hunger games you are born and raised and probably will die where you and you can be picked to be in the hunger games. they have a few things in common, but i didn't think about the hunger games (read those books first) while i was reading divergent.
i don't know much about Divergent but every time i ask someone who is a fan of it if it's the same as the Hunger Games they go all crazy and spring into a week long lecture about how amazing Divergent is but never even answer the question so I'm just gonna asume it's close enough to HG thats it's not worth the read
To whoever thinks that the hunger games is better than Divergent: ARE YOU FREAKING INSANE?!?!?!?!?! Divergent is the best book/movie trilogy in the whole entire freakin world, Hunger games was so boring they only kissed each other meaningfully 3 times, while in divergent I can't even tell you how many times they kissed, that's how much they kissed. In the hunger games, you had to kill people if you wanted to live after the first movie, I was barely even interested in them, so I didn't even decide to read the books, it just felt like they were so stupid and meaningless. In the Divergent, Tris and Four actually love each other, while in the hunger games peeta and katniss only love each other so that they can live. I mean how can you love the hunger games instead of divergent?!?!?! I can't tell you how many times I have watched the movies of divergent and read the books, that's how enthralling they are. I would totally read Divergent over the hunger games any day. If someone asked me, "Do you like the Hunger Games?", I would literally look them in the eye and say, "No! The hunger games are one of the worst books in the whole entire world! Why would I ever like it?!?!?!", and then I would walk away. I hate The hunger games now and will ALWAYS hate the hunger games and there is no changing my mind about it. Period.
No matter what, all dystopian novels will be compared to The Hunger Games because it came out first...
No, In the Hunger Games the fight to there death with other tributes or die of hunger of lack of water. But in Divergent they are forced to chose where they stand. And train to see if they made the correct chose. In the hunger games there's only on chose: Kill or be killed.
I liked both of them and there probably was a little inspiration from the hunger Games, especially in book three. I don't thinks it's a copy though

They both grew at plots and story lines and they were different in ways, one girl relying/in love with a guy who has to endure the same thing she does. So it goes either way.
Divergent is like a radically warped/dystopian Hogwarts, HG is more dystopian (cough*) Battle Royale (cough*) or the dystopian Ancient Rome.
I liked both of these books, but they both have very different plots.
I think there are definitely similarities between the two, but I do not think Divergent is a copy of the Hunger Games. Of course they both have a strong female protagonist, and take place in a dystopian world, but they also are very different. For example, the romance in Divergent, I feel, plays a bigger part in the books than that of the Hunger Games. Of course everyone loves some Everlark, but it does not stand out as much as Katniss' rebellion. In Divergent, the connection between Tobias and Tris is focused on almost equally as much as Tris fighting the system. I also believe that in the Hunger Games, Katniss knows who she is and is developed as a person. I think she is fighting the Capitol more than she is fighting herself. On the other hand, I think Tris is still struggling in finding her inner self. Throughout the Divergent trilogy, Tris is battling herself equally as much as she is fighting the system. As you can see I am very passionate about these two trilogies and I understand that I brought up lots of controversial topics in this comment. But, overall, I do not think that Divergent is a copy of the Hunger Games.
To much arguing in Divergent
Divergent was to boring and annoying, not enough killing XD
I totally agree with you Jayla813. I kind of do like Divergent better because of the factions and I found that I liked the story better? I mean I'm more of a fan for those stories where there aren't a lot of people being killed, but thats just my opinion.
first off, veronica roth had spend years plotting before she started writing, you wouldn;t have to do that if it were a copy and i think that would also be impossible if you look at the release dates.
second, they both take place in a distopian future but the rest of it is very different, the plot for example, the characters, the technology.
I personally think they have just a few things in common that's all: they take place in the "possible" future, people are devided into sectors, female lead and they're both just very very good books.
I enjoyed reading them very much.
