Early thoughts and impressions? (Please save any spoilers for the "final conclusions" discussion -- Thanks!)

Hahtoolah | 84 comments The Forward magazine Book Discussion recently read and discussed this book on Zoom. The book gave a very lively discussion.

Hahtoolah- Question...
Are the discussions on Zoom done in a way that could spoil the actual read of the books ??
I haven't watched any for that reason.. Thank you.

Unless the book is short and the entire book can be discussed, a given number of chapter/pages is "assigned" and discussed. Discussion is limited to those chapters/pages. Some book discussions stretch over a few weeks.

Michelle | 5 comments I read it awhile ago and it made a big impression on me on the issue around having multiple identities, and what happens when those identifies clash? Interested in hearing from others what they think.

I read it a while ago too, Michelle, and may appreciate it even more now. We'll see!

It seems his book The Good Lord Bird is also involving issues of identity. I haven't read it but was puzzling about why it got included on a Book Riot list of must-read Jewish fiction. So I was reading about it + reading others' reviews. Have you by any chance read it? I would order it, but already surrounded by an avalanche-high stack of to-reads.

I agree - the intersectional relationship between the multiple identities is very fascinating and certainly informative. If you are a part of multiple marginalized groups it frames how you look at things.
