High Fae

Every place in the world has a ruling nobility- and in the case of Prythian, that would be the High Fae. Unlike other Fae, their features are more human like- besides their arched ears or longer than normal limbs- and are viewed as "Perfectly Sculpted" and beautiful. All of the High Lords are High Fae.

The High Fae are also stronger and much more powerful than any other faerie, with abilities that differ with their level of power and line of genetics, like the Daemati and Shadowsingers. The ability to walk into another person's mind would make a Fae a Daemati, granting them power to read, manipulate, or destroy the mind of someone if they are trained and powerful enough. Shadowsingers have the ability to hear and feel things that others cannot, and are able to merge into or move through the shadows. They can be very effective spies.

The High Fae are found throughout the world, but mainly inhibit in the northern outskirts of the Mortal Lands. Prythian is divided into seven courts: Spring, Autumn, Winter, Dawn, Day and the Night Court- the furthest, yet biggest, court. The High Lords have even stronger power than that of any other High Fae, with abilities that favor their own courts significantly.

High Pristess

In Prythian, a High Priestess is a High Fae that oversees important religious rituals and ceremonies, and are very well respected. Although their devotion is to the Cauldron, High Priestess are encouraged to marry and bear children, as it would be a disgrace to go against their instincts and gift of fertility.
The children of High Priestess are typically powerful and well- respected.
The Twelve High Priestess- the ones that govern Prythian- reside in Day, Dawn and Winter courts, although they have spies and committed followers everywhere.

Illyrian

Illyrians are a warrior race, known for their violent and warmongering history. They are not considered High Fae due to their inhuman bat-like wings, yet they are not categorized as lesser Fae either. For generations, it has been a male dominated race, with the females being "clipped" when they reached maturity so that they could not fly. Since the High Lord Rhysand has come to power, this practice has been banned, but even now some clans continue. The Clipping cannot be reversed if not treated quickly. Still, more females are being allowed to keep their ability of flight and train to be warriors than ever before. For any Illyrian to become a warrior, they must participate in the Blood Rite, which consists of going unarmed into the mountains without magic and with their wings bound. If they survive, they are deemed a full fledged warrior. Some Illyrians wear Siphons, which allow them to channel their raw power into something more useful. Not every Illyrian is compatible with a Siphon, and those who are only have one - there are very few exceptions to this. Siphons are not permitted in the Blood Rite. Unlike the High Fae, Illyrians have rounded ears. Generally, they have dark hair and golden brown skin, with the exception being only the few half Illyrians that exist. Their wings are incredibly sensitive, and from a young age they are taught to protect them at all costs, so many do not allow them to be touched.

Peregryn

Native to the Dawn Court, the Peregryn are very similar to the Night Court's Illyrians in that they support their court with an aerial legion. Not much is known about their history, with so many of their records burned long ago during Amarantha's torture of the realm, but they have always been close to the High Fae who reside in the Dawn Court, with one captain of old even becoming the High Lord's lover. They have always been proponents of equality among their culture and legions, with both males and females allowed equal opportunity for advancement and leadership. They are distantly related to the Seraphim and have similar wings, though their white feathers are softer and are built for speed and agility rather than battle. They are also distinguishable by their bright golden armor, which shines brightest in the dawn.

Seraphim

Seraphim are the distinct relatives of the Peregryns, and the people of Prince Drakon and his mate/wife, Miryam. They are described as the opposites of Illyrians- with six feathered white wings and weapons with a near heavenly glow, as well as their humanoid-like appearance. Like Illyrians, nearly all of them are build and honed for battle.
The Seraphim have lived on a hidden isle ever since the human wall was built, although since the war, a few have made their way into Prythian once again.

Naga

Naga are notoriously viscous creatures, dangerous mostly to the mortals whom they enjoy to torture and eat. For many years, they went without human feasts or dined only on the 'sacrificed' Children of the Blessed when some were available. Now, there are many restrictions as to what they are allowed to eat, and feasting on humans is frowned upon, but those stupid enough to wander into the designated Naga hunting grounds are free game. These creatures are humanoid with serpentine features, covered in dark scales. They are known for their powerful arms, amber eyes, and black talons so sharp that they can rip apart a human in a single swipe. They serve the Dark Mother, the evil counterpart to the Mother the other Fae believe in. Every year, they have a large bonfire celebration dedicated to the Dark Mother commemorating the children who came of age that past year by completing their first hunt.

Suriel

The Suriel are malevolent, yet honest, faeries that are said to be older than Prythian itself, but not older than the cauldron. They are unable to lie and will answer any question when they are captured, but you can possibly catch the interest of one if you offer it clothing or food worth it's time.
The Suriel can be located in woody parts of Prythian, with a particular like for slaughtered chickens. They cannot, however, cross running water- for one reason or another. All Suriel are entitled to their own appearance.

Puca

The Puca are another type of dark Faerie that are known to be incredibly deadly. However, they are different in the fact that no one knows their true appearance. They are said to belong to the wind and weather and everything that changes because they disguise themselves as others in their victim's life to lure them away so that they may devour them. While they are not the most dangerous creatures, they are among them and yet flee if they are challenged. Puca possess a form of illusion magic to trick their victims, and also have a strong sense of smell that allows them to track their victims from a far distance.

Urisk

The Urisk are lesser Faeries that are typically found in the Summer Court, their bodies almost human like if it weren't for their tree-bark-like skin. Urisk age extremely slowly- physically aging a year, for them, would be equivalent to ten human years. They usually work as maids or whatnot, although it is not to be assumed that they cannot take up other jobs. It is unknown if they have any magical powers.

Wraith

Wraiths have the ability to silently walk through any kind of walls, ideal for "invisible" maids and very great spies. Wraiths, which typically inhibit in the Night Court, are a mix between Faeries and lesser fairies. They do not have a specific physical appearance and could look like practically anything and anyone- although some refer to them as "mist".

Water-Wraith

Water- Wraiths are found all throughout Prythian, in inhabitable oceans, lakes, rivers or any kind of body of water. Although they are able to live outside of water, that is a rare case and they mostly stick to underwater. Although it is unconfirmed, it is widely suspected that they are all females, wear no clothing and are all extremely honorable amongst their kind. Their appetite is never, ever, sedated.

Water-Wraiths are slender, with sharp angular faces, noses no more than small slits, gills below their ears and wholly black eyes. They have iridescent gray skin and it shimmers in the light, the texture of it is clammy and cool. Their hair is long and dark, while their teeth are pike-fish-like, fingers webbed jagged, and clawed webbed feet.

Mortals

Mortals, more commonly known as humans, are a non-magical species that reside almost strictly in the mortal lands. Even though the war many years ago allowed them to move to the Fae lands if they wished, most prefer the "safe" space they have below the border. Many and most mortals hold no sympathy or admiration for the Fae species and still hold many legends about them, many of which are untrue and have perpetuated from the very first mortal wars. Many of the most superstitious and anxious wear iron which they falsely believe can protect them from the Fae. They are rules by 6 mortal queens, all of whom have been replaced since the last war, and who have been bestowed with some gifts from the Fae that were inherited from their predecessors.

Children of the Blessed

The Children of the Blessed are a group of fanatical humans who worship the High Fae as deities. They believe the Fae are kind and good, ignoring the cruelty that they wrought upon humans long ago. However, no one really likes the Children. The High Fae believe them to be naive and are often used only as entertainment, or food to the more vicious races. Their fellow humans insult and mock them, and treat them cruelly. Village leaders allow them time to preach their beliefs and practice, but for the most part, every environment for them is hostile. They wear all sorts of silver jewelry to make themselves more appealing to the Fae, and occasionally send one of their members over the border into Prythian. If the member does not return, they believe that the person was deemed worthy and was accepted by the High Fae to live beside them in luxury.
