While the romance is sweet and they have good chemistry, there was something missing. Their relationship is more of an afterthought than a key part of the story and Ellie's secret keeping undermines it.
I liked how they met way before the start of this book but I agree something was off a bit. I think Lauren is right. Ellie was the reason the relationship didn't feel quite right. I did like their chemistry though. That seem authentic.
I thought the romance in this story was flat. IMO there wasn't much chemistry between them. It was nice that they had met before and that they weren't complete strangers, but it just felt like the romance was an after thought to this story.
You know what derailed me about this romance? Ellie not trusting Grant enough to tell him her family was being threatened. I could not accept their romance while she was being deceptive as it went beyond hiding that info...she was trying to search Lee’s house! So, until she came clean, I didn’t want him connecting with her.
I’m fine with the romance being a back burner part of the story as the suspense was really good. However, I had my problems with Ellie.

The suspense was definitely better than the romance in this one.
I agree with Jonetta. Kate didn't trust Grant to help her when the lives of her family were threatened, but she jumps into bed with him.
I agree with you Jonetta, Ellie didn't work for me until close to the end. I will never understand someone's inner dialogue saying how much they want the person, but then their actions push the person away.Anita, I didn't have a problem with a one-night stand. Even if he went back to active duty, a good roll in the hay is OK.
She knew that a physical relationship with Grant was likely to be a short term thing. He stated he was going back to the service up front. I just didn't see how she trusted him enough to go to bed with, but not enough when her the lives of her and her family were on the line and he could have better protected them.
