Grant is suffering from PTSD. He needs some therapy ASAP to help him manage his anger and self-control issues.
I agree...he needs some therapy. He mentioned many times he wasn't able to decompress after the highly intense altercation right before he found out about Lee and Kate's death. Those feelings kept bubbling up throughout the book and need to be dealt with in a safe environment.
His nightmares of blowing off a guys face and seeing his brother in that image is telling. He needs some help in dealing with what happened in Afghanistan and Lee's death.
He needs therapy, but I don't think of him as a ticking time bomb, just a vet who needs some help letting go of that part of his life and needs some help to do that.
I use the ticking bomb reference because he lost it twice in this story, almost killing the two men until he regained some sense of the present. And, he had flashbacks that had him reacting as he would in Afghanistan. That was enough for me to be worried.
Definitely! He is a strong man, but needs help. He is still reacting with a soldiers frame of mind fighting the enemy. He has serious PTSD and blaming it on the battle being so close to his brother's death doesn't cut it.
