Sean and Lucy inadvertently walk into Whitney’s assault on the Bennett family. Lucy behaves as a negotiator but is somewhat thwarted by Wade’s interactions with Whitney. Why do you think he was so obtuse in handling her? Were his reactions instinctive?

I just wanted to tell Wade to "shut up". I think he realized that his mother was injured and his brother was going to be the next person she killed. He was panicked and didn't understand what Lucy was trying to do. I think he thought he could convince Whitney to go with him and leave everyone else at the house.

Shut up, Wade was what I was yelling at the book! He was confronting to person who killed Alanna, who he really cared for, and nothing was going to stop him from having his say, even if it got them all killed. I think it was more ego than stupidity.

He was profiled as being emotionally immature. That was clear in this scene. Whitney was obviously irrational and here he was trying to make sense of the senseless with a crazy woman. Lucy should have decked him.
