Here are a few sources of books written in the 1800's, which puts them well over that 100 year old mark:

Sarah | 16 comments Oh can I recommend Dangerous Liasons? It is brilliant. The Count of Monte Cristo would cover your +500 pages and it's more than 100 years old and also brilliant! Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen is 101 years old too.
Hope that's helpful :)

Katrina (katrsrose) | 1 comments I loved the Count of Monte Cristo!

I'll also throw out the suggestion Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert (1856) it was one of my favorite required readings back in school. Set in a France (could knock off "set in a foreign country") AND if you reading in English, it's translated (i.e. the "a book written originally written in another language"). And if you were asked to read it in school but never finished it there's that challenge too haha.

Jennie | 5 comments I'm going to read Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. I've been trying to read it for quite some time. I do love it, I just keep picking up something else and getting lost. I would recommend it!

Ellen | 6 comments I read The Jungle by Upton Sinclair. It's been on my to-read list for about 10 years but it's always gotten pushed down. I believe it was published in 1906.

Thomas Hillring (dakkster) I think I'm going to tackle Candide, since it eluded me in high school.

Elisabeth (elisabeth7291) | 24 comments I read Far from the Madding Crowd. Since it is out now as a movie, I wanted to read it anyway.

message 8: by Annerlee (new)

Annerlee I'm going to read The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Alan Poe. I've never read any of his books before and it's supposed to be classic horror which I have little experience of (although I like Stephen King)... and it's short : )

Shannan | 51 comments I think I'm going with Time Machine by H.G. Wells. I've always wanted to read it....and it's short :)

Kim Ford | 6 comments My late grandmother's all time favorite book was The Secret Garden and I have wanted to read it for many years. I recently found the electronic version and will be adding this to my list for this category.
