I just watched "The King's Man" last night. And I thought it was way better then it had any right being given it being a prequal in the series it is in. The first 2 acts were absolutely excellent, the last one was a standard action movie. I mean I picked it thinking that last bit was going to be what the whole movie was, so I didn't mind. But I was just shocked by how well written the first 2/3rds were. It had much more nuance then that series or the writer/director has given most of his works in the past. It still had his sense of sophomoric humor and fun action, but it had much more of a social allegory in it, as well as decent character development. It's nice to be surprised by movies in a good way every once in a while.

I watched the television series, Black Sails Season 1 on DVD from the library. It appeared first on Starz. There are four seasons of the show. It’s a prequel to the novel Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. The main characters are Captain Flint and Long John Silver. On one hand, I think they depict pirates more realistically than in the movies, but it is mature-rated. I thought it was fun watching and plan to see the rest of the series at some point.Next, I plan to watch Picard Season 2 on Paramount Plus. Ten episodes were released once per week from March 3, 2022, to May 5, 2022.
I've been catching up on Ozark. Also watching new Better Call Saul & Mayans M.C. every week. Bambi & I have been watching Halo, Outer Range, Star Trek Discovery & Picard.
Went over to a friend’s apartment on Monday to watch Better Call Saul on broadcast. Watching TV as it airs is so strange to me now.
Sport is the only thing I watch "live" these days.
Everything else is at my convenience. Even free to air TV stations have their own free streaming services to catch up on series..
Remember the days when if you missed your favourite TV show, you had to wait years (if ever) for a repeat. I know a very small handful here do 😉

Went to see Dr Strange 2.... This was quite possibly the worst of the MCU instalments. The motivation of the antagonist made no sense and the characterisation of supporting characters was almost completely absent.
I also saw Everything, Everywhere all at once which is what a multiverse movie should be.
Really disappointing from Sam Raimi.

This was as bad as Dark World (Iron Man 2 was way better).

I thought it was pretty good but knew a lot of people might not like it.

Raimi's directing style can be a little off-putting but I get used to it for representing the horror the characters are going through.
For you library readers, the Slough House books are on Hoopla (which I don't always remember to check), so you can get audiobook versions there. I really like them, through 3 books anyway.
I thought Slow Horses started out really interesting and then ended up getting really bogged down. For like 3 episodes now (where I’m at) half the episode was spent with the dudes in the van just talking. Some of the most boring and tedious stuff I’ve ever watched.

Since we have a couple months of showtime, we are watching, United States of Tara. I love it. Surprised about mid way through season 2, when I realized who the daughter was!
Watching Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. I've been underwhelmed by recent entrants in the Star Trek franchise. This one is actually pretty good. Oh, it's overcolorful in the same way that the Motionless Picture was, the Spock is adequate rather than inspiring, Pike is egregiously overgroomed and they take a lot of TV shortcuts. Still good stories, nice use of the episodic format, interesting concepts. I'll watch at least the ten episodes of this season.
I watched s03e09 (Jibaro) of Love Death + Robots on Netflix and this is one of the weirdest, most hauntingly beautiful things I’ve ever seen. Really astounding stuff and probably the best animation I’ve ever seen. It’s only like 15 minutes long so I would highly recommend giving it a watch.
Jibaro was visually stunning. Definitely WTF out of 10
A must watch. Definitely hauntingly beautiful as you describe.
I would also recommend "Night of the Mini-Dead". It is also visually stunning, but in a different and more amusing way.

About to watch Ep4 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Congrats Paramount, you've managed to make Star Trek appointment television again.
Aaaand also just saw the first episode of Obi-Wan. Meh action. I get sick of Star Wars storylines deconstructing everything. I really don't want to see Toadie-Wan. Presumably he will (view spoiler)One good moment tho, young Leia's force ability manifesting itself. (view spoiler)
I was wondering how they would get him off Tatooine. We loved the 1st episode & will be watching the 2nd one as soon as I can get Bambi to watch it with me.
I'm itching to watch Kenobi but my son's interest in Star Wars has spiked in the last week after playing the new Lego game on Nintendo, and he's insisting we watch the prequel trilogy before starting on it so he's up to date.
We wrapped up TPM and started on AotC last night and so far it's been a pretty enjoyable watch. Of course there's the awful child acting, horrible CGI, overlong scenes (looking at you podracing), and Jar Jar but it's hard not to have some fun when seeing your kids start to get enthusiastic about something you love.

Obi-Wan was fine. It's a bit frustrating when a show has to take someone out of a situation and move them into the meat of the story, in this case, Kenobi living a boring, normal life watching Luke and into some action (rescuing Leia). It's that tension between in universe and us. We KNOW that something is going to happen and we're not really going to watch Obi-wan go to work and go home over and over... so the wait for that plot to start is a little frustrating. But at the same time, the in universe story has to show us the setup and make that transition natural. I wish they could have done that in the first episode but as the second ends, we're fully into the change.
^ You're calling shenanigans on that and not (view spoiler)And if okay with that, how about how the Jedi (view spoiler)
The inquisitors have been in the comics since the show Rebels introduced them. Some are pretty badass.
Can't say I'm a fan of either. Turning heroes into cowards is a storytelling conceit I could do without.

Oh damn! I think you're right!
Just finished watching Antlers 7/10. Effects were top knotch! Acting was good too!Watching The Secrets of Dumbledore later today on HBO max!
Watched the first episode of Kenobi. That chase scene in the first episode was one of the most hilariously awful things I’ve ever seen.
Also finished season 4 part 1 of stranger things and it was very good overall, but a certain part of the story could have been excised completely and it would have been better for it.
Watching RRR on Netflix. I have a dance to learn!Trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgBoM...

Watched The Soul on Netflix - a stylish neo-noir thriller from Taiwan. It reminded me of some of the bleaker aspects of the future as portrayed in Machinehood
I suppose I'll watch Kenobi today even tho I'm not loving it. There's already spoilers at the top of my news feed.
Aaaand...watched. Gotta admit the effects are spectacular. This one felt like a Star Wars show. The plot is still weak, derivative, and destructive of existing canon.Just because a premise worked once doesn't mean it has to be replicated endlessly. I didn't need a forced Lone Jed and Cub. And (view spoiler)
And as for Leia, I think this show needs a reason why Kenobi isn't trying to train her. He's all hot to train "the boy" but the girl gets no attention? What, you need a dick to be a Jedi? (Does Vader even have one any more? :) )
Head canon: The reason Darth keeps failing is that Anakin is still inside the personality imposed by the Emperor. He's striving to make Darth fail. Removing key personnel of the Empire. Ensuring plans don't get to fruition. Letting key Rebel figures go to "track" them.
My son and I watched Obi Wan today. We have really enjoyed it so far. I am just going to sit back and enjoy it for what it is. Star Wars. Boba Fett was disapointing. It could have been so much more (view spoiler)

It's like if Zach Snyder directed Gandhi with a script by Quentin Tarantino.
