I read The Little Prince, Anne of Green Gables, The Outsiders, The Moving Finger by Agatha Christie, Northanger Abbey, Ramona The Pest and Ramona The Brave by Beverly Cleary.
I read Lolita by Nabokov and The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, both very good and very interesting books, I would recommend them to anyone interested in reading about 50s American suburban middle-class society. They are dealing with rather disturbing topics though, so it's perhaps a good idea to check beforehand if you want to read about these or not… But if you don't mind, they are certainly worth your time!
I read Pippi Longstocking and Strawberry girl with my 6 yo daughter. I also read North and South and Anne of Ingleside on my own. I read Little Prince too, if we call that a classic.
I read The Time Machine by H.G. Wells and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. I’d read all of the other Oz books as a kid, but didn’t read the first one, as I had watched the movie so many times. I knew there were differences from book to movie, but as I read it I realized that passages sounded familiar. I think someone read it to me! That had to be 50 years ago. Reading the book brought back a nice memory, and I can now say I have read all of Baum’s Oz books.
