ABANDONED. Adult Mystery in which characters had to remove cat odor with a formula using white wine, circa 1992

Not really a literary request but... In 1992 I moved to a house with overwhelming cat odor, at the time i was reading a book, probably a mystery, in which the characters got rid of cat odor with a formula using white wine. I am trying to find that book for my daughter.
Silly request to put here but what better place to try?
