Yes gas for cooking and candles for light. We also don't have drinking water so need to boil the water on the stove too!Have charged my phone from my laptop, but that's dead now, so if power doesn't come on tonight I'll be sitting with the engine running in the driveway to charge.
But no heating and it's really cold!I just saw a thread on a Facebook group I'm in about this book. They were all loving it 🤔
hey tien - if you can stick it out - you might be able to use it for Nick's task in SRC next season - its based on man booker...i asked if i could use it

I just saw that, Dee. Motivation for me, for sure!

Oops I've returned it 😅
nm I'm sure I can find another book for it.
A friend who loved the first 2 books said that she heard it was easier to follow on audiobooks since it's all sort of internal monologue. I'll keep an eye out for this book on audio but atm, I don't see any

I'm 45% in and finding it really hard going. There are some funny moments of witty dialogue, but overall it just feels like hard work. I probably should give up on it, but I never don't finish books so I'll continue on. I have heard it gets better, so maybe it will be worth it.
i'm around 50% - i wouldn't say its a hard read - i'm averaging about 35-40pgs a night, but its not that interesting (i.e. i don't have any desire to keep reading past my goal for the night)
I'm barely started as I set it aside for Read-a-thon. Oh, well. Like Meg, I hate to give up on a book I have started, so I will keep on. My current copy is due back at the library on 9/5, and there are no further renewals. I am still awaiting another copy from my local library.
i only got to about page 50 on this book and gave up - I never understand how such books win prizes it was just hard slog
I've DNF'd this book. I got to page 69. It is due tomorrow, and I just cannot make myself get into it enough to make progress. I am still on the list for another library; and, maybe by the time it comes up for me, I will be ready to attempt it again.
sounds good Bea - i'll admit that i'm still going - but then not much else for me to do right now - and i'm limited on books to what i either have in my amazon archives or can borrow in ebook from the libraryi have about 200pgs left - probably going to be 3 stars for me, but on the low side of 3 stars
I'm about 60% in, currently feeling about 2 starsI just don't get why it's so popular. If all of us don't like it, and we have fairly wide ranging tastes and are all avid readers!

Tien, do you have a library that subscribes to Rb digital? I've only just discovered it and has heaps of Australian audio books. And it has this book on audio too (at my library anyway)
finished up the last book today - i ended up saying 3 stars, rounded up from 2.5 - i mean it was decent once you got into it - but you really needed to have a background in understanding henry VI - if i didn't i don't know if i would have stuck with it
Well done Dee. I'm at 80% and finding it painful. The problem is that once I lose interest I don't really pay attention to what I'm reading so I never get back into it. Particularly when reading an ebook - for some reason it's harder for me to connect in that format.

1.5* Yikes! Glad I DNF'd but well done on finishing, Meg!

Congrats on the finish. Your rating helped me make the decision to NOT dip my toes back into this book. I'm just not in the mood to struggle with a book.
Joanna, from the reviews and struggles of those of us who did try to engage with this book....well, you haven't missed much.

about the only good thing was the ending and seeing Thomas Cromwell get his comeuppance - (view spoiler)

But I may not have much choice ; 26 hours later we still don't have electricity :("
oh no!!! do you, at least, have gas for cooking/heating/warm water? :(
ooh, how are you charging your phone?!
