Ellen | 3521 comments Washington Post reporter Lowery spent more than a year following some of the toughest stories of his career; those of black men killed by police. He began his study of the tragedies in Ferguson Missouri after the death of Michael Brown. Interviewing the family, friends, police and, eventually, those who came to protest, Lowery saw the beginning of the Black Lives Matter movement as it took hold of the American consciousness. He became friends with some of the leaders of the movements created to protest injustice and was often called upon to report on the scenes of many more fatal encounters between black men and police. Lowery is not unaware of the complaints that the media feeds into the uproar but feels that people need to see these tragic and historical events for what they are; murder. Never an easy book to read, it is an important look at today's society and the hope of people to make life better.
