I read Ghost early last month and really enjoyed it. Jason Reynolds compelling writing style made the story fly by and kept me constantly intrigued. Especially by how he seamlessly weaved Ghost's past into his present.
I also finished Ghost in June :) I had the audio book, which was really well done, and enjoyed the story. I thought it was well written and enjoyable but it somehow felt a little short on character development, as in growth. I think there is more to come, so maybe we'll see a little more thought on Ghost's part.
This is a heart-warming book of a mentor-mentee relationship. I feel like I've seen this type of story in movies, where the mentee is unable to help himself and makes poor choices, and the mentor is able to get through to him on how to be a better person. I must admit, I was on tender-hooks when Ghost is finally able to compete, for I was willing him to win. What a great ending.I was trying to remember what other running books I had read before, and I am trying desperately to remember this one about a boy who ran away from school and wouldn't stop running from place to place, with this pair of trainers. It's almost like that running scene in Forrest Gump. It might have the words 'star' or 'amazing' in the title. Does it ring a bell with anyone?

He had a tragic past and a difficult situation, but he felt a little too foolish for me. I didn't feel that the consequences were realistic when he messed up and (view spoiler)
I was surprised not to enjoy the book more since it was an award finalist and I've heard such praises.

Maniac Magee is what I think, too.
