Lisa F | 5 comments Hi All,

I read a book somewhere in the 80s about a future world run by women, where men were subservient and not necessary to reproduction, and told from the perspective of one of those men who rebels. I assume given the basic nature of the story that it was anti-feminist but don't recall anything at all about the title or author. All i can recall about the book was that the cover showed a man in women's underwear sitting at a dresser putting on make-up. Google isn't producing anything useful as yet. If anyone recalls anything similar, i would be delighted!

All best, Lisa

Keith | 224 comments Could it be The Feminists? The cover shown (which I previously saw on a "hilarious/bad book covers" Tumblr page) isn't the one you describe, but it may be a different edition. The synopsis sounds about right:

"1992: To Be A Man Is A Sin, To Take A Woman Is A Crime...They rule the world, and top dog is a bitch! A small band of men and their women go underground to fight the final battle of the sexes!"

Lisa, was your book "The Feminists" or are you still looking?

Connie | 2 comments The book "Herland" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman was originally written in serial form and published in magazines in 1915, then published as a book in 1979. It's about 3 men who 'stumble' upon a society of all women in a remote utopia, is narrated by one of the men, and although it's not mentioned as an inspiration for Wonder Woman, it certainly could be.

Lisa F | 5 comments Thanks all- it definitely sounds like the Feminists. Herland sounds worth following up irrespective.
