Jimmie | 302 comments I have read the novella 1922 as well as watching the movie. As with a lot of books turned into a movie, the book is much better than the book. Although I enjoyed the novella, I felt the movie adaption of 1922 really missed the mark. As for the book, I was really pulled into the story. I was impressed with how creepy such a short novella impacted me.

Okay Jimmie, which is it: turned into a movie, the book is much better than the book. ...I am going to watch the movie today....

Jimmie | 302 comments Stephanie, sorry about my mistype. The book 1922 is better than the movie. But it has to be difficult to fill an hour and a half movie from a novella. In the Tall Grass, the movie from the novella by the same name form Stephen King and his son Joe Hill, was the same situation.

Haha, but I am getting my snacks together and see this movie on NF. I haven't read the entire novella, but I still am. I am gearing myself up to this Tuesday book coming out.

Dana | 10 comments Hi-is this novella in one of his anthologies, or is it a stand alone? Thanks!

message 9: by Jimmie (new)

Jimmie | 302 comments Dana, 1922 is a novella from Stephen King’s Anthology, Full Dark, No Stars.

I watched it last night...Thank you Jimmy for your intake on this, and I think I will have to agree with you. I didn't think it was the best 2 hour movie. It was a bit of Carrie, Ben, Willard, all rolled up in one. Poor Betsy the Cow,,,,I did NOT like that scene at all.....

Dana | 10 comments Thank you, Jimmie and Anne! I'm hoping to start it asap!

Which woman was "loose"...I didn't see that. You had the girl who was in school who liked the son, then you have the mother who worked the farm and disappeared. Did I miss another woman in the movie picture?

Okay, so I didn't get that Ruth,,haha, I got that she was a farm wife, and loved to sew, and wanted to open up a shop in a big city, and the farm was actually her's by way of her parents left it for her, and her husband wanted a divorce and she wasn't budging on giving him money because she wanted to take the son with her to the City, he was getting upset, and he killed her, and then stuffed her body in a well on the property, then put the cow down there on top of her, and he covered it up like that. The son left with a girlfriend he had during school, she ends up pregnant, and they take off like a Bonnie and Clyde type of deal, and they end up dead, but the thing with the husband is that he was being haunted by his wife, then his son, and he was in an apartment all alone looking crazy, and I believe he killed himself at the end. Is that what you seen?

In the Tall Grass,,,,,well let me say a few things here about that movie. It was going good, pregnant girl and her brother stopping to throw up and then hearing voices in the grass, the TALL grass. First of all, I know why I am never asked to be in a thriller movie, some stuff just doesn't work with me. I would have used my bungie cord and attach it under my car, then walks a few feet into the grass to see what the heck was going on. This movie lost me when it kept repeating, like what the heck ( not what I really said ) but first they are dead, then this little kid named Tobin looks like the demon kid, then you have his father who is sick in the head, and then we end up in the middle of the grass field, looking like a stack of poop. Now there was some good jumpers in the movie, but in all, it wasn't worth 2 cans of beans. I wonder if the book ( Novella ) was better. I am not a SK reader, but will grab some tea and watch his flicks. Thank you Ruth,,,,

Yes, I would have called 911, but what struck me was the cars that were in the Church parking lot. Now I seen a few of SK's cars there like Christine, and then it looked like that black hearse car, cannot remember the name of the movie, but I believe it was called The Car, or The Hearse, with James Brolin, it was a 1970. But I snoop before I would go into a field. Funny how I say this because I have issues going into the corn maze here in town when October comes around. I use to take a flashlight and some bread crumbs, but the grandkids said that I was cheating. BUT I GOT OUT OF THERE...haha...I liked the scene where the grass was unraveling when the boyfriend was tying a knot..Good scenes, but too much repeat.,..After that, I watched Jamie Fox's new movie...Project Power...

Yeah, but Ruth, Did they REALLY get out? The Church threw me off for a bit, and it still does. Somehow I just didn't get that little kid Tobin, first he looked like a evil doll ( Chucky) then he was the guide to go in further into the grass, then all of a sudden his mothers head gets smashed, and then the kid is a good kid, but I don't know if he was a good kid or not, and not only that, but I don't know if they really got out...Why them and not the boyfriend...There is a message in this movie about Redemption and giving your life to God, but when you touched the whatever that is, then you are stuck.

I think King wants up to use our brain, but I can't use it in some of his things, heck I am still stuck on the father who was a real estate guy,,,so if the rock or poop was about God, then why was he killing folks?...THOU SHALL NOT KILL.....Yeah, hopefully someone read the book, and will let us know...

Jimmie | 302 comments Stephanie, I’m sorry In The Tall Grass missed its mark. I agree with your review of the movie. I felt the short story was better than the movie. The short story was co written with Stephen Kings’ son, Joe Hill. I purchased the book If It Bleeds, a collection of short stories by Stephen King, but I have not read the book yet.

Donna Schmidt | 36 comments I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thinks most books are better than the movie. Also yes In the Tall Grass did leave you wondering why?? Don’t go in, call 911. Think about your pregnancy!!!
