Any, all and even potential spoilers while discussing this book should go here.

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) | 1296 comments I liked the Scottish slang! Was it slang? I don’t really know, but the dialogue occasionally has Scottish English which confounded me! In any case, I really enjoyed the twists and turns of the plot. I didn’t see most of the secrets coming at all.

Maria | 35 comments April I think Brookmyer is compulsive with the word wee other than that almost all slang is related to gangster activity.

I personally like his political commentary, Thatcher critique. You can find it in the difference between customer and passenger when the police think there an explosive in Central Station.

I agree it is full of twist and turns. Did you finish the book? He solves all mysteries and secrets in the book at the end, you will be pleasantly surprised.

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) | 1296 comments Yes, I did finish! “...the most difficult four words of her life.” So, I had to check out the next book in the series, didn’t I! I have it on my Kindle to find out his answer.

Maria | 35 comments Are you my father? Is the only thing I thought it could be. I could be wrong.

Maria | 35 comments April I googled it and yes Are you my father? are the four words. Woohoo but get this in the excerpt Glen Fallan says no. What!?

Can Ian Fallan be Jasmine father? He was killed in the 80s When Jasmine was born, who killed Ian? Jasmine mother or Glen Fallan?

Sooo many questions

Maria | 35 comments James or Jazz (the father) I guess I have to read the book in order to find who was him (a gangster?)

Whaaaaa??????

The mystery deepens!

Maria | 35 comments If you re read the chapter Lost in the Swamps It says Glen Fallan disappeared 21 years Years ago. Police thinks Stevie Fullerton killed him because G Fallan killed a cousin of Fullerton over a girl.

My guess is whoever was killed is Jasmine’s father.

Maria | 35 comments This is my review for the book done July 2nd. Feel free to comment, agree, disagree or post your review. I will love to read them to discuss.

It is not exactly an advert for tourism in Glasgow. It is wee dark, wee twisty and definitely Scottish or better yet Glaswegian.

My only complaint is how women characters are treated in this book. Jasmine the main character is too clumsy and incompetent, Catherine sounds great until she gets played by policemen and Ramsay’s scream is what gets the family killed. Laura is great but she is not included as one of the names in the series.

On the other hand you have Abercorn who is one step ahead of Catherine and Glen Fallan, who is guiding and saving Jasmine in every single turn.

This book is full of surprises and action. Very well written and very compelling and emotional at times.

The heart of this book is a quote that belongs to Moira Clark (Catherine’s mentor) I am omitting some parts of This is Glesca but you will get the gist of it “Any time you’re confused, take a wee minute to remind yourself of that inescapable fact: this is Glesca. We don’t do subtle, we don’t do nuanced, we don’t do conspiracy.....We do tit-for-tat, score- settling, feuds, jealously, petty revenge. We do straightforward. We do obvious. We do cannas-miss whodunnit......This is Glesca.”

Janice (JG) | 28 comments I had more fun with this book than I thought I would ... and went right on to reading the next in the series. So now I can't separate the two books, and don't want to set up spoilers for the sequel(s). I think I also have the third book, but I'm taking a break.

I liked the two female protagonists more as the story progressed. Jasmine's clumsiness starts to smooth out, and is not so much the focus in the next book. Sorry, can't separate them. Fun, tho! Scottish shenanigans : )

Maria | 35 comments Glad you liked it I thought I was the only one! lol. Glad to hear that Jasmine clumsiness disappears. I thought although she was the main character at least in the first book she should have at least one characteristic that make her stand out.
