I think Rapunzel is a great place to start with retellings! I really need to read more. I can’t run a group about fairytale retellings if I haven’t read any! Anyone got any good suggestions? Possibly YA and not horror?

What do you like about Cress? Why's it your favorite? I can't really decide which book of the Lunar Chronicles is my favorite haha.

Omg! The Golden Braid is amazing! I loved how Melanie Dickerson made it from a different point of view, but has overlap with the previous book's events! Even though there's an overlap, the book never lagged and kept me on my toes until the very end. It's still one of my all time favorite reads. :)
Look at that cover thoughhh. It's SOO pretty!

I have all of them, and the hardcovers just look soo nice all lined up on my shelf. I especially like the Piper's Pursuit cover! Gorgeous colours.

Ohh I have the paperbacks and I love the paperbacks because all the books before The Golden Braid had the same back cover and it was this really cool wooden book shelf with herbs and bottles on it. It really had it feel like a series to me. I can definitely see how having all the hardcovers would be incredible though! I wish I had all one or the other haha. The books after The Princess Spies are all hardcover for me. All well.

Having empty bookshelves really doesn't look right. Soo true!
Printed books for the win haha. I feel so much more accomplished flipping through the pages, then closing the book and knowing I read all that. And I like being able to tell when the book's coming to an end without having to consciously think about it. :)

Ohh cool! Makes sense. :)

Ooh I just checked it out and it looks great! Added it to my to read list thanks. :)

I also really like the book "Rapunzel Let Down" but I'm aware it's an acquired taste and I only read it once so maybe it's not as insanely good as I actually remember it being. Dunno.

I read it. I thought it could have been a bit better, but it was certainly interesting.

Same! I was often frustrated with the MC too. Her super power seemed to be withholding information for dramatic effect.
And while I really enjoyed the frame story initially, I was kinda disappointed with the ending. Like really. That was the reason you started with a frame story, so we could have a reveal that it was alllllllll trrrrrruuuuuueeee!!!! at the end.

Yes! Completely agree! And I also felt that the connection to the fairytale it was supposedly based on was very thin and not even necessary.

Oh. This sends me down a rabbit hole. What would the story have been without the Rapunzel connection? I don't know. I love fairy tales though and so I never stop to think outside the folklore box. I did struggle because the story was explained as a villain origin story for the witch in Rapunzel. And so while reading I was like, wait... who is Rapunzel and who is the witch? At times the MC felt like a Rapunzel character and her grandmother the true witch.
