I just saw that NetGalley is going to be adding audiobooks next week. I'm afraid my shelf is going to be feeling the change.

Most of my reading is audiobooks so I’m pretty excited about that prospect! I hope they are decent books though - other sites I’ve been to over the years that give audios for reviews have been pretty disappointing

NetGalley tends to have a great selection, so I'm hoping their audiobooks are at the same level.

It's something you have to apply for, but I've heard great things about the program. Might be worth a try?

I caved and added another September pub book. Don't Look for Me is read now for the next couple of days. I wasn't going to get it, but 7 of my GR friends have already reviewed it and everyone of them gave it 5 stars. So, of course, I had to give it a try. I've only read one other book by this author and I gave it 3 stars, so we'll see.

Second review of the month and I'm up to 97%! That's the best ratio I've ever had. The next couple of months, I have a lot of books to review to keep up with pub dates, but I'm at the point were I can finally start adding books again without feeling too stressed, as long as they publish after September so I don't make myself crazy again.
Name Tags and Other Sixth-Grade DisastersI read this one with my grandson and he loved it. He isn't much of a reader, but he looked forward to reading this one all the time.

I added another book. It's just a fairly short children's book that publishes Aug 4th. I think I've created a monster with my grandson. lol He has started requesting NetGalleys. He loves looking through the books to choose one and thinks it's pretty cool that they aren't published yet, so he's one of the first to read the books. He chose Believe
We are reading it now.
Well, I was in the mood to check out a cookbook. I hadn't done that for a while. I picked up
before I realized that it already published on June 30th. My brain is struggling to remember that we're in July. I was thinking the pub date was the end of this month, not last month. Oh well, I'll get through it in a few days. Anyway, I'm heading in the wrong direction and still considering picking up an audio or two. The only thing holding me back is that I'm hearing they're awfully glitchy.
I finished the cookbook I added.
was a really great introduction to cast-iron. Cast-Iron Cookbook review
I finished my first one of the month. It started out only ok for me. It seemed like a predictable romance. But the last quarter really saved the book and it was completely unpredictable for me and I ended up really liking it!
Side TripJust an interesting note. I have read one other by this author and she really is into "damsel in distress" type women, which is irritating for me so I probably wouldn't read others by her. I don't like weak woman for my main characters. But I think romance people would really like her.
I finished one that has been on my shelf for a while because the kindle version didn't download properly so I ended up getting the paperback from the llibrary and purchasing the audible edition!

And I just noticed they have removed that forced split on the shelf with titles downlowded over 3 months ago. Hooray! That was such a useless and annoying feauture. So glad they removed it

Karen ⊰✿ wrote: "And I just noticed they have removed that forced split on the shelf with titles downlowded over 3 months ago. Hooray! That was such a useless and annoying feauture. You can also click on the headings (pub date, archive date, downloaded) to order your books differently too.
The only thing I would change is that you should be able to choose how you want to order your books and keep it that way. Right now the default is download date and it automatically goes back to that each time. I prefer pub date. But at least the option is there and it is so much better than the useless 'over 3 months' way.
Yes, it would be nice if it saved settings. Oh well, olne win at a time!!
I also just downloaded the app. Looks like it could be a good option for the PDFs as well as audios

Karen ⊰✿ wrote: "and maybe just one other audio LOL
"I haven't grabbed an audio yet, though I'm dying to do so. I was considering the one, but I'm not sure I'm ready for another unreliable narrator.
If you are going to listen to audiobooks with the app, be careful of the chapters narrated. If you click on the audiobook and listen to it looking at the page of that audiobook, it will automatically change from chapter 1 to 3, 3 to 5, etc. What you need to do is click on the audiobook and then go back to the menu and listen like that. That's the only solution I found :)
So... I've gone and messed up my NetGalley again. lolI received a widget for Under Pressure, which they are recommending to me because I loved Orphan X, which I did. It publishes August 4th and there is no way I will be able to read it before then, but I accepted it anyway.
While I was on NetGalley I saw Shadow Sands was read now, so I got it because I liked Robert Bryndza's writing with the Erika Foster (The Girl in the Ice) series.
Both books are second in a series and I still need to read the first books. At least I already own the first one in the Robert Bryndza series, but I still need to get the first in the other series and my library doesn't carry it.
As if that wasn't enough, I really wanted to try an audio book. I passed on The Shadows because of all the talk of lucid dreams and I skipped out on His & Hers because reviews mentioned animal abuse/mutilation and I'm not sure I can handle that right now, particularly if it's graphic. So, I ended up requesting The Night Swim (though I'm not sure how a book about rape will be any better than one with animal abuse). Unfortunately, the request wasn't instant gratification so I also picked up The Switch. I figure I'm going to need something lighter anyway.
So, when all the damage is accounted for, I have added 3 to my to be read pile, two of which publish next month, and one to my pending list, which also publishes next month. What was I thinking?? I am absolutely swamped in August.
I just finished The switch and it is really sweet. I hope you'll like it. I'm about to start The night swim as well ^^
Kelly wrote: "I just finished The switch and it is really sweet. I hope you'll like it. I'm about to start The night swim as well ^^"Thanks! I need to finish my current audio either today or tomorrow, then I'm starting The Switch next.
Well, apparently there is no stopping me this month. lol I just added two more. I requested Anxious People a while ago and it's been sitting on my pending shelf forever. They just sent me a widget. So, of course I accepted.
While I was there, I saw that my request for The Night Swim was approved.
That makes 8 add-ons this month. I started the month with 8 on my shelf, so I'd say that's probably the opposite of what I should be doing. Plus, only 1 of the add-ons publishes after September.
