Pru goes to Miss Henrietta’s School for Cultured Young Ladies, a front for a male brothel where women can choose sexual liaisons with men, The Stags of St. James. Had you even heard of such a thing? Your thoughts about the concept?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I've read other books where there were clubs that catered to sex. Most of them were men's clubs. This was a little different. I thought it was a much more interesting concept.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments This was new to me. I don't claim to read a ton of Historical-Romance, but I tend to think that this was an fictional invention of the author. I seriously doubt that the men of that era would have let such a place exist.

Laura Like I said last question, far fetched. In that era woman existed to serve men.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments I wouldn't be surprised if there had been small establishments that catered to very wealthy women (or men) for this purpose to meet men for said "entertainments." Doubt it would have been a large clientele though.

There were definitely clubs for men to meet men (Molly Clubs, they were called) but I couldn’t find any reference of such a thing for women. Maybe I used the wrong query structure on Google😏

As I said before, it was common for married women to have lovers as so many of the marriages were arranged. But this kind of club was probably wishful thinking on the author’s part. But it was a great idea!

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 909 comments I loved it! I don't imagine that there were any clubs like this, however. Married women normally found lovers discreetly. I thought the author was trying to make things more fair since men have always had brothels to go to.
