I didn't think there was any way to organize a bookshelf other than by size. A tall book next to a short book??? PSYCHOTIC!!! Tall books on the left, descending in height as the shelf progresses to the right. OBVI!!

I just noticed how anemic my bookcase here on goodreads is compared to my 4' x 8' filled one at home. I just moved and downsized, lol. For years I read a book a day and even volunteered at the library to help feed my addiction. My list should have thousands. You can register to win a copy of my first novel "Angel in the Shadows, Book One" by Lisa Grace until June 1st in the giveaways section.
I plan to update my bookcase (here) in the near future. Lisa
I just read a report that said, among other things, that the number of books in a child's household directly correlates to her success in school. Obviously it doesn't directly cause that - it's a symptom of a house that values learning, that's all - but I thought it was interesting. So what all of our bookshelves say about us is that if we have kids they're gonna be super smart....and, I'll venture, a little bit OCD.
That's a nice point, Alex. We certainly had a lot of books in our house growing up, and I would say it probably contributed to us doing well in school. At least until I got mono in high school and stopped caring about life for a while. But books saved me during that time too, so it's all good!I do like the trend of women holding baby showers and insisting that every participant bring at least one baby book to contribute to a library for the child. I think that's nice. And it works for me because anytime I have to get a baby gift, it's usually a book. I don't do kids, but I do books, so that's as far as my thoughts can really go. :)
Yeah, I buy a ton of books for my niece. Not that she needs help in that department; my sister is more of a nerd than I am.Oh hey, I'm bleeding. That's the last time I offer to help fix a printer. Vicious thing.
I remember reading pretty much everything in my house when I was around...oh, probably 12 - 14. Will & Ariel Durant's multivolume history of the world? Sure! Looking For Mr. Goodbar? Okay! Still traumatized by that one, btw.
My book shelves say about me that I only buy books I really love and read over and over again, books I use for work or think I might need someday for work, and books I want to be able to toss to an errant child who tells me they have nothing to read and a book report due in 15 hours. I also have a lot of reference books and books to help my kids with school projects. I also collect books about how to write... but rarely actually write.
All else comes from the library around the corner... which I actually consider to be my living room. :)
My bookshelves porbably thinks im random! I read so many different books. From horror, to drama, to suicidal, to magic and etc. And I dont put them in order, I just stack them up in 3 different piles: Books Ive read, books I have to read next, and books that can wait(: Im definetly not the cleanest person when it comes to books.
I'm about the same Princess. Except I have shelves full of read laters & multiple piles of read nows.
I've got about half non-fiction and the other half fiction. It would be great to add more cookbooks and poetry to my bookcase!
Mostly fiction, one shelf of non-fiction, some inspirational and devotional, and some classics. And 4-5 books of poetry, the collections of.
My book shelf is very orderly. I have certain genres for certain shelfs. Chick-lit goes on one, historical fiction on another, science fiction on another, etc. And it just so turns out that I am a very neat and orderly person C:
