I received this question from a new member asking if I knew what this book might be:
I’m thinking it’s either Lisa Kleypas, Julia Quinn, Eloisa James, Sophie Jordan, Sabrina Jeffries, Liz Carlyle...
The first part of the book she the main character is at a musical or something and needs to leave immediately so one is the actresses (who is a mistress to main male character) offers her carriage. Girl takes carriage but rake thinks it’s his mistress and wants to spice things up and “kidnaps” her only to get her home and realize it’s not his mistress.

Perfect! There was a book I read many years ago, it was '06 that I read it and it was about a young woman back in the medieval era (perhaps 1600's) but she wanted to be a nun but her father wanted her to be married and arranged for her to be married. She did marry but still devoted her life to God and kept herself pure, she had her menses at the time of her wedding and therefore kept herself pure; however, as time went on her husband was patient but wanted intimacy. It was later learned in the book that she had been molested by her father as a child. At the time he was tutoring a small child in their chapel and he was about to molest her when his daughter realized what had occurred to her. Her husband saved the girl and then took the child and his wife off her father's land and tended to them for the rest of their lives. It was such a beautiful romance!
I can't recall for the life of me the author or name of this book. But I loved it so much. I had gotten it in a book club. Does anyone have any idea? Thanks!

At first it was reminding me of Anne Stuart book I read but it’s definitely not that so I am not sure. I hope that you can find it!

Yeah, so wish I could help; but I don't think I've read either of these. Glad for the thread though!
I am not so good at them either! I don’t think the first one in Kleypas or Quinn but the other authors I have not read as much of their work.

I think the first book is Love Only Once by Johanna Lindsey.
I enjoy trying to solve these book recollections!

Yes. That is the book.
Is it possible Janet's book is A Kingdom of Dreams by Judith McNaught? I can't remember all the story details, but I know she wanted to be a nun
Abducted from her convent school, headstrong Scottish beauty Jennifer Merrick does not easily surrender to Royce Westmoreland, Duke of Claymore. Known as "The Wolf"; his very name strikes terror in the hearts of his enemies. But proud Jennifer will have nothing to do with the fierce English warrior who holds her captive, this handsome rogue who taunts her with his blazing arrogance. Boldly she challenges his will... until the night he takes her in his powerful embrace, awakening in her an irresistible hunger. And suddenly Jennifer finds herself ensnared in a bewildering web... a seductive, dangerous trap of pride, passion, loyalty, and overwhelming love.

I don't think it's that one, Mariana. Although her father was a pig in A Kingdom of Dreams, he didn't molest her.

Yeah, it's probably a book I haven't read. I can't think of a HR where the heroine's father molested her.
Hello everyone. I grabbed a book out of a book exchange once a d now I cannot get it out of my head and it's driving me crazy. It was a historical romance. I think the hero was named Devereaux and the heroine was Jenny. But I could be totally wrong on both counts.
So here is what I remember about the plot.
The man wanted access to some other guy's shipyard or dock and was trying to get it by seducing his younger, slightly stupid and vain daughter. This girl's sister caught on and ended up offering her help instead because she was a bit upset with her dad.
The man would dock his fleet of ships there and she would send word to him if her father or someone was on there way to the property.
The two started a very casual relationship.
At one point the hero was looking to hire a crew and take off with his boats to do whatever it is he did. I remember his occupation being slightly questionable to the Ton.
The heroine wanted to go with, the guy said no. So the girl disguised herself as a young boy and got a job as a deckhand. The hero eventually discovered this and was very angry, put her in a cabin and took her clothes to make sure she wouldn't come out and cause mischief. At one point she climbed the mast and then was too scared to get down and the man had to go up and talk her down.
Later on, they wind up in Italy or Spain. They pretend to be a married, aristocratic couple. They run some sort of con artist scam, which involves her going to other guys houses at night and playing cards to get money out of them. The hero thinks she's actually sleeping with all these guys for money, and starts to get super jealous.
In the end I think they decide to actually get married.
Can anyone help me? I've tried google so many times and cannot find this book for the life of me!
