message 2: by Amy (new)

Amy Osborn | 17 comments I loved what Ian and Rachel said to each other at the very end. Very sweet and romantic.

message 3: by Kim (new)

Kim | 2 comments I love when Fergus is talking to Jaime and he says that he used to dream that he was the son of a great man, and then he realized that he was the son of a great man.

That was sooo sweet! Yet another line that made me tear up!

ChristinaRae | 295 comments I really liked it when right at the end Jenny Murray walked in and saw William having a major tantrum and said 'like father, like son' (more or less).

That was absolutely PERFECT! Jenny is one of my favorite characters. She isn't even in the colonies for a few "minutes" and she has already summed up the situation perfectly. But she has always done that!

message 7: by Kasi (new)

Kasi | 2 comments I loved when Brea asked if the job she was applying for required a penis...so funny!

Wendy | 259 comments I liked how LJ blurts out "I have had carnal knowledge of your wife!" and all Jamie says is "Really. Why?" Typical Jamie to totally understate things.

message 9: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 235 comments "but ye couldn't weep for the bairns. Or the house. Or your wee garden. Ore the poor dead lass and her bairn. But if ye weep for your cheetie, , ye know ye can stop."

"how do you know that?"

"Because I canna weep for those things, either, Sassenach. And I havena got a cat."

I didn't see that one coming. I can't imagine where the rest of that conversation will go! Will Jaime kill him? Will he see it as LJ's right as her husband? Or will it just be funny to him, given LJ's preferences?

message 11: by Gam26 (new)

Gam26 | 22 comments For some reason I don't see him thinking it is funny. I do think he will be reaonable but hurt. It makes me sad.

"You think I haven't got anything better to do with my life than trot around after you, sticking pieces back on?"

That made me lol

That was hilarious! Loved it!

I dont think Jamie will kill LJ, but it will be a little uncomfortable for a while.

message 14: by Tina (new)

Tina Perin | 1 comments Jamie won't kill him, but he'll have issue with Claire bedding him.Not the marrying. He'll see that, but won't be pleased about the sex.Did they even have a chance to tell him that they thought he was dead and that they were married. He just storms in hugs Claire and next thing you know kidnaps Lord John while William discovers who his father is all on the same page!It was pretty funny.
The Jem cliffhanger was tough.I couldn't sleep thinking about it.

"My Grandda says the King can kiss his arse," the boy replied matter-of-factly.
"JEMMY!"
Mr McKenzie clapped a hand over his outspoken offspring's mouth.
"You know yer Grandda didn't say that!" Mrs McKenzie said. The little boy nodded agreeably, and his father removed the muffling hand.
"No. Grannie did, though."

Classic one for me so far. lol

Fig-licker? Fopdoodle? Love it.

message 19: by Alexis (new)

Alexis | 17 comments I do not have my book with me....just finished Saturday...but let me try:
Love when Ian says "and lay at your feet" at the end. Super!

Love when Lord John says "I've had carnal knowledge of your wife" Hah! Cracks me up! 'Carnal knowledge'

for some reason that does not make me laugh! and I am sure as hell Jamie will not be laughing.

message 21: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (les2car) | 131 comments Yes, it makes me laugh too. He just blurts it out and confesses right away to him. I can't wait to read about Jamie's reaction.

I can't wait to see Jamie's reaction but I'm a little scared that he will not want to see Claire or split up or something. Very sad to think about for the next 3+ years.

message 23: by Shandals (last edited Dec 22, 2009 06:48AM) (new)

Shandals | 7 comments Not a quote per se, more of an exchange, but I love it because it says a lot about the relationship between Jamie and Claire.

When Jamie is getting to ready meet with Laoghaire after his return to Scotland:

Claire:...."She never made you laugh, did she?"
Jamie: "I may have smiled once or twice" he said gravely. "But no."
Claire: "Well, just you remember that,"

message 24: by Rowena (new)

Rowena | 15 comments this from Germain to Fergus and Jamie cracks me up...

"I cannot say what he said, or Papa will be offended. He has very pure ears Papa."

and

"My frogs suffer from seasickness-like my grandfather."

message 25: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Vaile (jessnic) | 33 comments I too laughed at the line, "I have had a carnal knowledge of your wife." and "Oh?" Jamie says curiously. "Why?"

I think he will be hurt, but I also think he will understand that her desperate need to have someone, or the feel of a body. Jamie told her he did the same in the cave. And, it is not as if LJ was peering in the background the whole time waiting to snag her up from under him (either literally or figuratively... LOL) They said it best themselves, they weren't making love to each other, but to Jamie. (Not saying he won't blow a gasket)I do think he will be able to reflect on his grave feelings of loss when he was in his lonely years.
