It seems interesting. I want to know what story it is too.
it's not Darren Shan's Demon series is it? I think that was mid-nineties though...

I’m trying remember the title of a book I read as a kid. It was a 70’s or early 80’s horror pulp paperback. It’s just one of those stories that stuck in my mind and I’d like to try re-reading it as an adult.
The story basically is that demons are on earth and they are working to open a portal to hell so that the legions there can invade and conquer earth.
The main protagonist is in High school (if I remember correctly), and the story starts out as being set in a high school. Somehow, he becomes aware of the demons. Something to do with finding something in a locker.
The rest of the story is about trying to understand, then stop the demons from accomplishing their goal.
The good guys loose and the epilogue is about how the surviving humans are all huddling in caves underground while the demons fly freely around the earth.
Pretty sure the book was from the 70’s, but might have been early 80’s.
Anyone have any ideas on what the title was?
