Questions About This Group

I notice books are chosen by the polling of members, but I don't see a poll. Is the group between books right now?

Hi Beth,

This scared me! I saw this old discussion appear and I didn't see the date so I thought Wes was abandoning me and looking for someone else! I see that we didn't have a good topic so I'm changing the name of this one to fit. If ever there isn't a good topic for what you want to discuss, you can always create one, too.

Our polls don't go for very long and we try to pick the books in advance. If you click on the polls link, you'll find our latest polls which will tell you what our upcoming books are if I haven't already added them in. I am just setting up the next set of polls now. The books we are reading are always at the top of the page. I am sometimes late a couple of days with the new books (why oh why doesn't Goodreads set them automatically?) but they should be right shortly after the beginning of the month.

These posts are not in the best order but basically this discussion is for anyone to post a question about the group itself, such as how we do things or where to vote for a book, etc.

Hi guys -- I'm sort of lost. I voted in the poll for adult book to read in Aug/Sept, saw that "I know why the caged bird sings" won, got all my copies out, but I don't see a discussion or even an "upcoming" note. Here's the poll I voted in: http://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/85...

Sorry, Ella, it was my fault. I somehow missed switching over the books that month. So I fixed it at the beginning of September. There should be a discussion there, now.

Is this group still actively reading banned books? The "current read" seems a little stale.

It's very stale. You're the first one who's noticed. I've been trying to figure out how to increase participation. If anyone has any suggestions how to do that, I'd appreciate them.

Meanwhile, I'll try to get new polls up in the next couple of days.

Thank you, Kelly. I haven't participated a lot because i read a lot of them years ago but I always enjoy looking to see if there is one I haven't read coming up.

What kind of participation are you hoping for? Maybe some of us could help out. I know a lot of people are coming to this group so there is not a lack of interest.

On the group main page under the title you can edit your membership.

I'm sure Kelly figured it out by now but if anyone else needs to know, on the main group page, you will see;

Click on Edit Membership (I've created the link above, too).

You will see:

My Membership

You’ve been a member of this group since April 13, 2009 and have made 628 comments.

Leave this group.

You will then get a button asking if you're sure. Just click it and voila, you've dejoined (not my word but I love it).

I'm sorry to see you go. If you're just trying to change what messages you receive from the group, on that My Membership page above, scroll to the very bottom and you'll see Upcoming Book Reminder Emails and Group Discussion Update Emails where you can change the frequency of notifications or not get them at all. The latter applies to different threads rather than the whole group.
