I really like this essay. What Corbusier explains here is how regulating lines have been used historically to create great architecture. From large mass volumes to tiny details, following these lines creates rhythm and proportion that is appealing to the eye. We may not realise it when it is in front of us but this rationality creates complete coherence in the design. I find it very satisfying seeing the regulating lines imposed onto the photos, elevations and plans and seeing how Corbusier has applied this logic to his own designs.
