Aimée Martins | 4 comments Hello. The plot I'm about to describe might be from a short story, might be from a whole book. I'm guessing it's from a well known author, as I wasn't reading anything far from that at the time, but not your usual super bestseller either. At the time I was reading a loooot, so I might be getting things confused. I probably read it between the years of 2005 and 2008.
The story is told from the perspective of a man who was locked up by his father when he was little. The father believed that if he didn't teach the boy any language, he would then speak the language of god.
The narrative was broken, as if spoken by someone who actually never learned language.
That's all I can remember, I'm sorry if it's not enough. I do have a strong affective memory about that story, it touched and intrigued me very deeply at the time and I hope someone can help me. Thank you so much in advance.

Rainbowheart | 28668 comments Sounds like it might have been based on Emperor Frederick II.

If it was a story, do you think you read it in a book of other short stories?

Aimée, is this story for adults or teens?

Can you tell us about the man/narrator who was prevented from learning language as a boy?

Aimée Martins | 4 comments MODS: the name of the novel is "City of Glass" by Paul Auster and it is part of the series called The New York Trilogy. There is a single volume of the series, that's why I thought it was a short story. Thank you so much!
