Catherine (cathjryn) When I was in the 4th grade (2007/2008) a parent of another child in my class donated a bunch of advance copies of books she had received at work. I ended up picking a book that was not meant for children so young and it was taken away from me (I believe towards the end of 2007) before I could finish it. Because I read this so young and I never fully finished it the best guess I can take at the genre is fiction. I did get about halfway thru though and this is what I remember (possible? spoilers):

The novel was about a family, mainly the sisters, and a curse that they somehow inherited. I remember one of the older sisters has an abusive boyfriend and ends up pregnant about halfway through. The youngest sister is cursed with everything she says comes true. I remember the direct example of her telling a classmate that she was "full of shit" and the girl ended up in the hospital the next day due to shit literally filling all of her bowels. From then on the youngest sister doesn't speak that much. I believe there is something about the grandmother that plays a major part in the curse too. I remember thinking the family was hispanic but I am unsure if that is something genuine to the book or not at this point. I remember the cover being a tan color and also thought the title was something like "The ___ Sisters." but that could be wrong.

If anybody recognizes this book I'd be very grateful. I've attempted to occasionally look for it but have been unable to find anything that seems correct.

Asia | Adventures with Asia Minor (booknerd117) | 210 comments Hi Catherine! This sounds really interesting, and I hope you find it!

Would you say this is YA fiction or Adult fiction? (i.e. are the main characters teens or adults?) What age group do you think this book was targeted for?
Is this set in a "real–world" or a fantasy/made–up world? Modern–day or "old–times" time period?
Do you remember any names? Author? MC(s)? Secondary characters? etc.
Do you think "cursed" could have been in the book title?
When do you think it was written?

Catherine (cathjryn) Hi Asia!

The main character was one of/the middle sister(s) and was in high school, so I guess YA fiction. It was set in the real world even though the circumstances of the family were magical. Also, it was in modern day.

I don't remember any names of characters or the author. I don't believe "cursed" was in the title. I believe it was "The ___ Sisters" and the ___ was their last name. That's my best guess. I've tried some searches to no avail though.

Because of who the book came from, a product tester, I believe it had just been published or was about to be meaning 2007 / 2008.

Catherine (cathjryn) No, the sisters in this book were genuine sisters. I also saw in that synopsis the setting was a wealthy suburb, but I distinctly remember this family being middle/lower class. Thanks for trying though!

Rainbowheart | 28699 comments I thought this might be it. There's mention of pregnancy, a grandmother, a trip to the hospital, and a curse, but when I looked for "full of shit" and the reason for the trip to the hospital, that page didn't come up in the preview.

I'll keep looking!

Catherine (cathjryn) So, after complaining about it to my friend on and off for several months and bringing it up again now, she has found it. I don't know how she searched what I had been trying for years and found it, but she did. It's The Gifted Gabaldón Sisters by Lorraine López.

Shocked to have finally found it. Thanks for the interest!
