But Martin was it that the money and the paid for Spencer - Roberts was necessary for Reagan to even be willing to take the risk to run.

I think after the "landslide" loss of Goldwater the Republicans wanted someone they thought could win - even if it was just California for now -and they found a way to make a path that Reagan could/would follow with a script that he could use.

But Bush one abandoned "voodoo economics" to get the vice presidential nomination - a great disappointment to me, at the time, of this patriot and ethical public servant.
Was he the last president who actually fought in a war?

Welcome back. That is funny about the Rotary club - it is true things that would be fine in the 70s would not fly at all now.
