The author propagated the idea of "cornerstone tasks" to solve a series of problems in a business.
As an example, the author made reference to a manufacturing company that was battling with various problem including low staff morale, productivity, efficiency, absenteeism and profitability, among others. The new CEO having assessed this situation chose to concentrate "safety of workplace" as a singular target.
This target then set subsequent activities in motion, creating a domino effect in the business, all geared towards improvement of safety.
Before long, this "cornerstone approach" (as opposed to tackling all issues at once) yielded the desired results and the company turned around.
If anyone else has read this book - would appreciate letting me know the name of it.
