I'm reading The Archaeology of Mind: Neuroevolutionary Origins of Human Emotions which is a fantastic book by Jaak Panksepp, who started the field of affective neuroscience. He established that there are 7 basic primary emotions common to all mammals (and to varying degrees in other clades). Personally I find this very helpful to understanding my own experiences. A good summary of that theory can be found in this Discover Magazine article. And a video of Panksepp tickling a rat to learn more about the emotion of play, which is one of my favorite things of all time, is here.

I'm currently reading Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel and The Longing for Less by Kyle Chayka. Both books were recommended to me by many people. And both surprised me. I'm not a hug fan of historical fiction, so a book about the Church of England Henry VIII and Thomas Cromwell didn't seem that interesting, but it won the Booker Prize and so many people were raving about it so I got it from the library via the Libby app. And I'm enjoying it immensely, Very poetic, there's suspense and drama. It's a great read.
I didn't have any expectation of The Longing for Less. I like Kyle Chayka's articles and since the book was also available via Libby, I thought I'd give it a go, And was pleasantly surprised. It let me down a rabbit hole to learn more about Agnes Martin, to listen to Brian Eno and more.

I am fortunate that there are dozens of Little Libraries in my neighbourhood. Every day, I stop at a few of them, and at least once per week, I find a book I'm interested in reading. Needless to say, they are piling up. Today, I found a book by Cory Doctorow Pirate Cinema that my son enjoys reading. I also grabbed a book by Tara Swart, who is a neuroscientist, which is an area of research I'm really interested in right now other than trees :) The Source: The Secrets of the Universe, the Science of the Brain
