Here are some websites about using colour, and colour theory. The main thing I notice about using colour is that each colour is not singular. I mean that when we say that the grass is green, it is actually made up of several different shades of several different colours that together make up the colour that we see. Also something interesting that I learnt is that we can use the contrast between colours to change their affect on the audience. Some colours may appear brighter or duller depending on what colours you put them next to. The second website is more about the science behind colour and how it works, so it is less about art, but still very interesting and a worthwhile read.

What do you do? :D
I often take a break too. Sometimes just doing is good, even if you're not happy with it. An artist that ran a workshop I was a part of said "if you're not happy with it, it's not finished," which I find inspiring. And even just drawing or scribbling or practicing shading can help me feel creative. Or I'll copy someone else's drawing or a photo.

Here are some videos of people painting portraits. If you look closely at the way they go about them, you'll notice that they begin with the darker tones in the colour palette they've chosen. Then they slowly build up to thew lightest colours needed.
