One of my top 10 all time favorites. Looking forward to the discussion.By the way .... I HIGHLY recommend keeping a piece of paper handy to jot down the characters. There are a LOT of them.

Not a bad idea. I do this with any Dickens book & many other classics.

I am reading this and taking it slowly. :) Tried it as a kindle, no go. Tried it as an audio book and awful narration. Just awful. So, bought my own copy and am reading that. The chapters are short 3-4 pages usually and I feel a real sense of achievement when I knock out several chapters at a go. So far it is keeping my attention really well.
Oh, my goodness! I went to my local, very small usb & she had a copy of Lonesome Dove!!! I actually messaged her ahead of time to ask about several books to cut down on browsing, but it was fine. She had 2 that I asked about. There was only one other customer. Very easy to be 6 ft apart. I ended up leaving with 11 for me and 4 for Bradley. I was like a kid in a candy store. LOL
I'll start on LD soon … maybe this week.

How is LD going for you, Martha? I remember that the first few chapters took a little time to get into. Maybe because of my problems finding a version I could read; but, I then started to really get into it. I know what is going to happen, because of seeing the series and because of reading reviews, but this hasn't ruined it for me. I find it hard to stop. :)
I'm so glad you're enjoying it. I haven't started yet. Got busy crocheting again which slows down my reading. I do plan to start this week. Jerry & I watched the mini series, but I don't remember it all that well.
How is it going Martha? I am almost finished with it. It is so sad sometimes but that is life. This book is about life! :)
I haven't started it yet. I've been crocheting so much that my reading has really suffered. I'm thinking of getting an audiobook. I have several credits at audible & I'm just not feeling my current one ... Elmer Gantry right now. LOL
I know when I read this for my F2F book club I had all these little post-it notes stuck in it to mark passages. My book had a veritable "Mohawk" of neon sticky notes when I was done!
Sorry I'm taking so long with this one. It's just been a weird year all around. Bradley's not going back to work until the virus is under control or there's a vaccine due to his underlying health conditions. I'm having trouble listening and just cannot hold the giant book. Such a weird year all around. When I do listen, I'm really enjoying it. Lee Horsley narrated it & I love his accent and the voices he's using.

Hope that your Bradley was able to get at least the first part of the vaccination. :)

Thanks, Melissa. We've both gotten both doses. Got the 2nd Moderna vaccine 2 weeks ago so we're doing good. He's decided he'll go back to work in May. I have no idea why he picked May. He can be so funny sometimes. The others are doing good as well. Am hoping to see my granddaughter soon. It's been over a year now. We spent Christmas Eve with my other son & his family. Hope you and your family are doing well.

It hasn't been two weeks since then though. My family is doing good. :) All my Uncles and their Wives and My Aunt contracted Covid around Christmas (my dad's brothers and sister) since they are in the elderly age range and have health issues, I was worried about them, but they survived. They all live in Tennessee whereas I live in New Mexico so no chance of catching it from seeing them.
Hubby got his second Pfizer vaccine (Thank you, Veteran's Administration!) on Feb 8. I got my first Pfizer vaccine Feb 12, and my second dose on Friday, March 5. Looking forward to going to Texas for our nephew's graduation and commissioning as a 2d Lieutenant in May.
Oh no!! We’ve lost some great authors lately. I took my granddaughter home last night & listened to Lonesome Dove for over 2 hours on the way back. It was wonderful!! Still have a long way to go, but I’m over half done. LOL
I didn't know about Larry McMurtry. :( Found out about Beverly Cleary yesterday. She was 104 years old :0Lonesome Dove took me a while to read, but I just keep at it. It was really good.

Finally finished Lonesome Dove. It’s pretty much all I did today as the last 3rd or so was so good. I just couldn’t stop listening. So glad I finally read it.
Lonesome Dove

The quintessential Western – but also a love story, an epic adventure, a buddies’ road trip and a look at a time in American history that is long gone and available to the current-day citizen only through reading.
There are hundreds of characters, some with just a brief mention, others central to the tale. And there are equally important non-human characters. The horses and other animals – Hell Bitch, Mouse, Sugar, Old Dog, the Texas Bull, Greasy, etc. And perhaps most prevalent are the inanimate “characters” – the vastness of the landscape, and the weather.
Gus is the philosopher of the group … always having something to say, but doing little of the work. Call is the taskmaster, a man who is running from his thoughts and who can never admit a mistake. Together they constitute a formidable team.
