I like that the book doesn't dumb anything down. I ended up looking up a lot of information about the types of clowns in the troupe that he describes. I'm used to a lot of quick, easy reads and its nice to have something different for a change. I read whatever I happen to be reading at the time aloud to my 6 month old baby to help her sleep and I will say that it is challenging to say all those names and other historical words I'm not familiar with. Not to mention that even though I know she can't understand any of it, all of my family have joked that if she turns out to either be super morbid or a serial killer then I'm to blame.

Also, Krystal, I love that you are reading to your baby! Maybe she will become a famous horror author!! :)
I thought Filip might be Leather Apron, as well, but maybe it's a misdirection? It seems extremely obvious that the politically charged murders might be Filip but maybe he just agrees with the killer and that's all...or maybe it's a sign that the real Leather Apron will incite more violence in those that agree with what he's doing.
I'm a little more interested in Smolak's story, at least in this section, but that could be because Viktor's patients haven't fully become important in the Leather Apron investigation (although Smolek is eventually going to end up at the asylum to continue his investigation).
I like the political aspect of the story that roots it in the real world. It's also made me look up a lot of things, just like y'all mentioned. I'm always appreciative of an author that doesn't dumb down their work and hand things to us on a platter. Sometimes it's ok to make your readers "work for it" so to speak.
