Jen | 27 comments I just started Part 2 and I just have to say that if Leather Apron is the main character's friend, Filip, I will be totally disappointed! The author keeps dropping annoyingly obvious hints that seem like an attempt to lead the reader in the wrong direction...but you never know

Mindy'sBookJourney (mindysbookjourney) The clown character in this part's story was deliciously creepy as well as all of the patient's. There is just something about a creepy clown that puts me on edge. :)

Krystal | 13 comments I really hope it isn't Filip as well. I think the connection of so many characters to fancy glass is interesting and makes me wonder where it will go but the fact that Filip had fancy glasses even though the rest of his living situation had declined is suspicious. I also liked the clown's story but I wish there had been more detail. I know that it is taboo to talk too much about child murder but as much detail as the vegetarian and the demon have had already makes it annoying to me that there wasn't more on at least how the kids were murdered. Then again, I could have missed it because I'm reading with a lot going on around me.

I like that the book doesn't dumb anything down. I ended up looking up a lot of information about the types of clowns in the troupe that he describes. I'm used to a lot of quick, easy reads and its nice to have something different for a change. I read whatever I happen to be reading at the time aloud to my 6 month old baby to help her sleep and I will say that it is challenging to say all those names and other historical words I'm not familiar with. Not to mention that even though I know she can't understand any of it, all of my family have joked that if she turns out to either be super morbid or a serial killer then I'm to blame.

Jen | 27 comments I totally agree with Krystal about the author not dumbing things down. I have found many words in this story that I did not know and, luckily, I am reading the ebook version so it was easy to look up the definitions.
Also, Krystal, I love that you are reading to your baby! Maybe she will become a famous horror author!! :)

I thought Filip might be Leather Apron, as well, but maybe it's a misdirection? It seems extremely obvious that the politically charged murders might be Filip but maybe he just agrees with the killer and that's all...or maybe it's a sign that the real Leather Apron will incite more violence in those that agree with what he's doing.

I'm a little more interested in Smolak's story, at least in this section, but that could be because Viktor's patients haven't fully become important in the Leather Apron investigation (although Smolek is eventually going to end up at the asylum to continue his investigation).

I like the political aspect of the story that roots it in the real world. It's also made me look up a lot of things, just like y'all mentioned. I'm always appreciative of an author that doesn't dumb down their work and hand things to us on a platter. Sometimes it's ok to make your readers "work for it" so to speak.
