I recently started again and remembered why I loved reading! I love all crime and thriller books, whether adult, YA, fiction or non-fiction. I am starting to collect classic collector edition books. x

message 107: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Allen | 1 comments My name is Amanda Allen, and I'm a stay at home mom/ published author under the name Beth Byers. My four kids are adopted, and we have 3 dogs. I read excessively and I don't really have a favorite genre. I read all over the place. Lately, I've been reading a lot of vintage fiction from the 1920s-50s, fantasies, and classic mysteries. I've been loving the Perry Mason audio books. I usually try to read a classic or two every month. My favorite writers are Maggie Stiefvater, Jane Austen, Georgette Heyer, Patricia Briggs, PG Wodenhouse, Alan Bradley, & Perry Mason.

April Chauvin (abc123classrooms) | 1 comments Hi I am April Chauvin , From Chauvin, LA I am an elementary school librarian and teacher. I have been at home for almost a year from a car accident and surgeries, which as led me back to my love of reading for myself and not just children books. I have been a romance book fanatic. But through some great buddy groups I have learned to love thriller, mystery, fantasy , and all other genres. I have even read memoirs that I loved this year. I am hoping to follow along on this challenge and read in 2021 and make lots of new friends.

message 109: by Alon (new)

Alon Bersharder Hi I'm Alon. I wrote a book, and I'm about to finish my 2nd one soon.

Thanks for inviting me to the group I don't have a great social life. I like to read, in theory, but I think the internet has ruined my brain a bit because after using it for years I don't have the attention span to read much.

message 110: by Farly (new)

Farly (farlycreates) | 1 comments Hey, everyone! Hoping 2021 is opening up new possibilities for you all!

I’m a professional artist experienced in charcoal, watercolor and ink work, but I love to experiment with other mediums like digital, photography, knitting, etc.

The reason I joined this group: I’ve been watching Alexandra for the past few months. As a mid-30 year old, I had lost my spark when it came to reading; in my mind I needed to read “adult” things all the time. Alexandra and friends opened my mindset to strike a balance between my love of middle grade, YA, adult fantasy and autobiographies. I CAN have it all!

It’s because of the inclusive, cozy (not to be confused by “murderous cozy”) vibes from the livestreams and YT that I felt safe to join a reading group such as this.

Glad to be here and can’t wait to see everyone meet their 2021 reading goals!

message 111: by Blog_Océane (new)

Blog_Océane | 1 comments Hello everyone,

Sorry in advance if I make a lot of mistakes, English is not my mother tongue. I'm French, I'm Océane and I'm 21 years old, finally almost 22 years old, I'm a student of modern literature (yes, we distinguish between classical and modern literature in France, the only difference is that the former has more hours of Latin and Greek). So, I love reading and I want to work in publishing later on, but I also like science, dogs, food and Disney. Anyway, let's chat about books since that's what we're all here for. I'm a reading addict, I read mostly classic books but also romance mainly. I read a little bit of everything but I'm not a fan of fantasy, fantasy, anything unrealistic. If I have to talk about my favourite novels, I worship Jane Austen especially for Pride and Prejudice after Jane Eyre by Brontë, Au Bonheur des dames by Zola (sorry, I don't know how you have this book in English anymore), Molière (French playwright very famous in the 17th century, I advise you!).
It will be a pleasure to discuss with you, to get to know other books and if you want to know some classics of French literature, I'm here!
Happy New Year and happy reading!

message 112: by Erin (new)

Erin | 3 comments Hi everyone. My name is Erin and I am a 40yr old mom of 2. I have 2 reasons for joining this group:
1) I've been watching Lexi's YouTube channel for the past 6 months or so and absolutely love it.
2) Even though I don't normally read Middle Grade, I wanted to find something that both my daughter and I could do that was fun and allowed us to spend time together.

This is the first book club that I've ever joined, so I am quite excited to see what it's all about.

Leisa - Soul of Sunflowers (soulofsunflowers) | 1 comments Hey y'all! My name is Leisa and I am 31 years old. I am a wife and stay-at-home mama of 5 kiddos. 4 out of 5 of our sweet babes are adopted and so I am a huge advocate for foster care and adoption! I love reading and recently dove back into it after years of not reading at all. I'm sad I missed out on all of those years but I'm sure as heck making up for it now! I started watching Lexi's YouTube videos about mid 2020 and just love her! I also found a ton of other awesome booktubers that made me want to dive into reading even more. I love all genres of books but struggle with romance lol I have a special place in my heart for middle grade so I'm just so ecstatic to be joining this book club!

Wendy, I thought I might be the oldest here since I'm 46. I'm happy to see people like us enjoying MG books!

message 117: by Tracy (new)

Tracy Smith (tracykathleen2021) Hi everyone, I'm Tracy and I'm fairly new to the group. I found this group by watching Lexi's YouTube channel. I just love her enthusiasm. I hadn't considered reading MG books until she mentioned Greenglass House which I loved. The encouragement that MG books add whimsy to one's life really appealed to me. I'm 46 years old and can use all the whimsy I can get. I'm also an aspiring librarian and I live in North Carolina. I look forward to being part of this group!

My name is Emma and I've been spending quarantine re-reading my comfort books. I read the Lord of the Rings again last year and I'm currently on the last book in the Frog Princess series by E.D. Baker, one I read many times as a kid. I love re-reading books like these because it always brings me back to when I read them the first time.

So excited to get to talk to you all about some of them.

Mary (malicereads) Hello everyone! I'm from Southwestern New Mexico. My name is Mary Alice and I'm a retired K-8 teacher where I taught reading intervention and math intervention. Currently, I'm my mom's full time caretaker. So I'm honored to be able to do that for her. Jaylene (jboogielene) Hey y'all, my name is Jaylene from California. My love for reading started in elementary with middle grade books but life hit and I completely stopped reading after high school. Well, here I am ten years later with 5 books down in only three months and I have Lexi (all of BookTube) to thank for bringing me back into our bookish world!

message 129: by Brian (new)

Brian Weisfeld | 1 comments Hello fellow MG-ers. I'm Brian Weisfeld from Silicon Valley. I spent my career helping entrepreneurs build their businesses. But I was inspired by my two daughters to create The Startup Squad, a Macmillan-published MG series to inspire kids (mostly girls!) to open their first lemonade stand or other business and to empower them with an entrepreneurial mindset. The series has been called "The Baby-sitters Club for the Next Generation." (www.thestartupsquad.com/books) I love to read MG and see what stories everyone is telling. Just finished Fighting Words by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley and was wow'ed by it. Looking forward to some great recommendations.

message 132: by Kerry (new)

Kerry (mybookishpromise) | 1 comments Hi I’m Kerry 34 very nearly 35 and from England’s Buckinghamshire.
Iv always loved books but got hung up on the fact that I struggled with reading a lot, I was slow and words would jumble up and I’d get tongue tied (even reading in my own head) it was frustrating and ruined my love of books for a while but began to overcome this, I’m now reading a lot more and I’m finally noticing a huge improvement!
I’m a fan of Lexie’s YouTube Chanel which is what bought me here.
Excited to read more great suggestions, thank you for having me.
