Here are a few things I remember from the book;
One of the characters was a military pilot who's jet fighter got caught on the edge of one of these bubbles as he was taking off. It sheared off the nose of the aircraft, which was outside of the edge and he was suspended in mid air, but from his perspective, he took off and his aircrafts nose just disappeared, thus forcing him to eject from the aircraft. He then landed in a jungle (I think) that was created around the edge of this zone due to the domes being reflective (like a mirror) which had caused the ambient temperature to increase and also disrupted the weather patterns.
I also remember the planet as being populated by a form of spider monkey that lived in the high canopy and a form of kudzu blanketing the jungle and blocking out most of the light so the ground itself was mostly bare or covered in leaf litter.
One of the story lines centered on a man who was sentenced to death by being banished from a dome when it was activated. Thus condemning him to a life of solitary existence outside of the dome.

THATS IT! You are awesome! I have been looking for this book since I first read it back in 94. Wow! Thank you!

Story follows a few characters that get "trapped" in a man made bubble or dome where time freezes for those inside but passes normally outside of it. These domes were huge, encompassing many square city blocks.
Multiple domes were created but are independent of one another and they kind of set a timer on each one and then explore what the earth has become when the dome "opens". Then they set the timer and do it again. Using this they, in a sense, travel or leapfrog through time, always moving forward.
Does anyone remember this series?
