SOLVED. Fantasy book about a wizard looking for his reincarnated love. [s]

The reincarnated love is a girl who's mother has passed and her traveling mercenary farther teaches her how to use a sword. This is all happening in the backdrop of a war. I think the girls name is Jill or something similar. The wizard's name I can't remember but I believe while he's trying to find her, hrs an old man by the time he does, he's also involved in the war. He also found her in earlier lives but it just never ended well.
